im amazed that even the playoffs didnt get picked up by ESPN. Hell, they pick up the playoffs of like...women's college bowling.May 05, 2009 at 05:53PM View BBCode
the versus contract doesn't allow for outside netwroks to broadcast the most watched games of the season. for reasons i'd have thought fairly obvious.May 05, 2009 at 06:04PM View BBCode
well obviously they couldve made a regular season contract, and a playoff contract. no reason to not sell them in pieces.May 05, 2009 at 06:07PM View BBCode
there is actually- the networks aren't so much interested in building an audience during the regular season and then having them watch the playoffs on another network. don't get me wrong, i think espn would be a much better network for the nhl to be on, but expecting versus to do all the work and then let espn take the playoff ratings is a bit naive. it's not like you see the superbowl on a network that doesn't carry any regular season nfl games.May 06, 2009 at 05:26AM View BBCode
The Ducks have become the biggest pain in the ass in the game.May 06, 2009 at 12:28PM View BBCode
and phoenix declares bankruptcy, basille agrees to a deal to buy the team for 212 million provided he can move them to southern ontario, and bettman immediately announces the nhl will be fighting the sale/move in court. because who wants a rich, business-savvy owner putting a team in a solid hockey market. we'd much rather force a new owner to stay in phoenix where the team loses 20 million a year. that guy is a disaster.May 06, 2009 at 02:07PM View BBCode
It's hard for me to understand hockey in Arizona, Florida or even California. Move them all back north.May 06, 2009 at 02:30PM View formatted

If the NHL (or any sports league) holds a city hostage for a new arena, which the city then builds, and then that team moves away only a few years into its lease, it can have a ripple effect for the building of all new arenas. And when a team moves, it closes off a market that the league can use as leverage to get one of those new arenas. I mean, I at least understand Bettman's position here. And if the Coyotes were better, perhaps they'd draw fans just fine. There's no guarantee that moving the team to Hamilton or whatever would make them viable long-term.May 06, 2009 at 05:47PM View BBCode
Perhaps the problem is with Gretzky. Does he ensure that they sell out their games, because the fans just watch him instead? How many other coaches with his record would still be leading the team?May 07, 2009 at 02:09AM View BBCode

censored that was a nerve-wracking game. Langway survives, at least until Wednesday.May 12, 2009 at 03:21AM View BBCode
that has been one censored of a great series. this might be the best second round, like ever.May 12, 2009 at 03:24AM View BBCode
