Could be. I thought everything in Canada was CBC. Apparently not!

no, we have 3 major channels (major for us, that is): cbc, ctv and global. there's also the city/asn stations trying to make it into the [canadian] tv big leagues. plus one independent out in newfoundland that's kind of like a newfie superstation. they all buy most of their programming from american networks but cbc introduced a bunch of new shows during the writers strike that have actually done quite well, so they're actually making canadian tv that doesn't completely suck. (this is a revelation)

every once in a while back in the day one network or the other (there were just two then, global is a more recent development) would take a stab at 'canadian content'. cbc came up with the beachcombers, an inexplicably popular show about life in rural british columbia. ctv had check it out. the beachcombers lasted longer. it also spawned a fashion 'fad' in the 'relic togue' which was worn by a character named, appropriately enough, relic. the candian content regulations are actually what cause the mackenzie brothers to be invented. canadian tv was picking up the sctv show and the crtc demanded something incredibly nonsensical, like a minute and 30 seconds of purely 'canadian' programming in the show. so thomas and moranis sat down and invented the most cliched canadian characters they could think and bob and doug were born. canadian tv rules can be pretty dumb.

Everybody bitches about the refs, but they know their stuff. Exhibit A:

it's a great caption, but that's actually horrible technique on the part of the linesman. rule #1 of breaking up a fight- wait for your partner. otherwise you tend to get popped in the melon a couple of times.

Is anyone else getting something other than the Stanley Cup Finals on NBC? I'm watching on CBC anyway, but the local NBC affiliate is airing local news programming instead.

no offence, but i refuse to watch any hockey telecast on nbc.

(are 5 and 6 on versus, since 1 and 2 were on nbc this year?)

No, my listing even showed the Stanley Cup Finals airing from 5 to 8 p.m. They just didn't air it.

It was on NBC here. It could be a local thing...sometimes the local ABC affiliate decides to show church services/infomercials over soccer/basketball.

maybe your local nbc station figured their broadcast couldn't compete with the cbc one?

I guess Bill Guerin isn't the reason the Sharks lost in the second round a couple years ago after all.
dirtdevil

June 10, 2009 at 06:15PM View BBCode

not the only reason, anyway. actually, the way they'e been going in the playoffs, maybe the better question to ask would be "is bill guerin the reason the sharks made the second round"?

i'm looking forward to a great game seven. hopefully pittsburgh wins. i hate watching detroit aand if the league's going to copycat the winner i'd prefer that to be the more entertaining team to watch.

Goddamn the Penguins and Sidney Crosby to hell.

Yeah, but the Wings are pretty horrible too. I've been watching the NBA more than the NHL during the Finals, I hate these two teams more than any other team in the league.

Oh I know. But at least Detroit is not Pittsburgh.

(I don't have anything against Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh gave us Dawn of the Dead. And Andy Warhol, who is some sort of vampire according to the movie Factory Girl. So, vampires too.)

(I have everything against Pittsburgh, but most especially that goddamn cheapshot artist child-toucher Brian Dawkins played in the same state with the Steelers for so many years and also someone from Pittsburgh sold me a pizza made out of herpes and I'm pretty sure it was Fran Tarkenton.)

Was the pizza delivered to your house by Brett Favre? I bet the pizza was delivered to your house by Brett Favre.

if only tarkenton had spent some time experiencing the godliness of slavery. then he might have been a better person after he was freed.
