yeah, that's another good example. so if 1B to SS, for that matter. albert pujols is a pretty solid defender at first. he would be worse than awful at SS.

lets just hope they get this "stretching" business sorted out one of these months so they can finally start looking into working on other things, such as this. I feel like all the enhancement suggesting of the past year or so is getting lost. Even though I'm not the biggest supporter of the defensive skills revamp project, i think it's a lot more interesting than the next few items on idea scale: tagging on second, bunting, intentional walks, tracking home runs allowed.

Just give players at certain positions a minimum rating in range/arm based on their age and position. We already give catchers a minimum arm rating.

For example at 2B you could have:

17 = D+
18 = D+
19 = C-
20 = C
21 = C
22 = C+
23 = B-
24 = B-
25 = B

By the way Tim, here's your A+ range catcher who was A/A+ on range/arm at the time of draft:

I would answer the A+ range catcher thinglike this: If a player is that talented at fielding the ball, you would put him in the middle infield. Of course if we considered speed for range, and called range fielding or glove, then defense would be much more realistic. Then if you had an A+ range catcher with B- speed, it makes some sense. Same thing at 1st base, but you wouldn't want either of these guys in CF because he would let a ton of balls drop in for hits. Conversely, a player with A+ range and A+ speed may be a better choice in CF than 1B.

I would be ok with that as well, but it is kind of one step of several. That only works if speed is made more realistica by tying it in with power, so guys generated with high power have a decreased chance of having high speed and vice versa. I'm pretty sure I have at least one team with all red letter speed, so using speed to determin range just gives everyone good range.
