well that part about trying to win also is helped by the embarassment that comes along with running out of players when it goes to extra innings.

A problem easily solved by doing one of the following: Allowing tie games; or, allowing players to re-enter the game in the case of extra innings.

And why can you do these things without the sky falling? BECAUSE IT'S A POINTLESS EXHIBITION GAME THAT DOESN'T MATTER! The ONLY purpose of the All-Star game is for baseball to make itself look good, and representing every city is a great way to do that.

Frankly, it wouldn't be so tough. Not every player has to play. Just one guy from every city...for like one at bat or something.

If you ask me, a lot of the fun of the All-Star game has been lost because the players DO take the game more seriously now. Gone are the days of John Kruk putting his helmet on backwards, etc. Now it's much more like a regular baseball game, except for the fact that it doesn't count. I think it's more boring now than ever.

Are you fucking kidding me? The players take the game more seriously now? This is, without a doubt, one of the most ass-backwards things you have ever said.

This isn't kindergarten. You keep score because yes, it does matter that there's a winner and a loser. Doesn't matter if it's an exhibition game - no one wants to see a goddamn tie. And letting players back into the game is just BEGGING for abuse, where the managers sub after every batter and the game lasts 7 hours.

For the record...

You people are funny.

And so is Rob Dibble... But for him it's more in a moronic, delusional kind of way that really doesn't make any sense but you laugh light-heartedly as if you actually follow what he's saying.

"Neither can I, and Jeter is the Jordan of baseball."

The funny thing is if Jordan would have been drafted by the Clippers they would have won titles and we would still talk about Jordan as a HOFer and the best ever. If Jeter would have been drafted by the Pirates or Royals he would be known as a good SS on a bad team. No one would even put Jeter and HOF in the same sentence, Jeter is one of the most overrated players in the game IMO.

Derek Jeter is on a Hall of Fame track.

Yes, he's a crappy fielder. Not quite as "bumbling idiot" as people sometimes make out, but not good. His range sucks.

But all the guy does is hit. Every year, he hits. Good average, some power. A few walks, sometimes more than a few. The backlash against Derek Jeter has existed for a long time now, this notion of how overrated he is. Well yeah, if all you listen to is Tim McCarver and other mouth-breathers like him. They'd put him in the Hall of Fame tomorrow if they could. But don't be fooled just because there's a lot of hyperbole around him by people who should never be allowed near a microphone. He's still a fine, fine ballplayer. Maybe he'll tail off and be washed up by 35. But if he continues at his current pace, and he's not slowing down yet, he's destined for the Hall.

And that catch he made running into the stands, and just about breaking his face. Not everyone has the guts to make a play where you know before you make it, it's going to hurt. Or even cost you a few games. The catch was from last season I believe, and ESPN replays it every chance the get, still.

That play is overrated. That play that David Wright (I think it was him) made this season was better.

I'd do it.

Some days I feel that I'd break my face for no reason at all.

The question is, is 3 days worth of Derek Jeter worth a chance at making one out? Is a week? A season? If it was Terrence Long or Tony Womack jumping into the stands it wouldn't be problem since they suck, but for a very good player like Jeter to do it, it's too risky, no matter how good it looked.

Derek Jeter lost his right to be on this year's team LONG before this year.

Torre used up one of Jeter's selections.

So let that one sink in, and maybe next time Torre will select the most deserving player, rather than just appeasing his own players (God willing the Yankees will never win another ALCS again...)
