I guess I can understand why Leiter was in there instead of Small but if Moose or Wang do come back, I hope that after Smalls latest performance they will choose him over Leiter.

*bump*

Was just re-visiting my info from August 30th.

So I did a little research last night.

Since they started the wildcard, every team that has won at least 94 games has either made the playoffs, or been involved in a 1-game playoff to get into the playoffs.
I think this fact should still hold up. Anyone who wins 94 should make the playoffs this year I think.

For the Indians to do that, they need to go 20-10 over the next month. Another way to look at it, if they win every series, they should be a lock for the playoffs.

Well, they've gone 14-4 since August 30th. I'd be shocked if they couldn't win 6 more games this year with the way they're playing.

Can they catch the White Sox? I think they have a shot, but its going to be tough. First off, they need to do well in the 6 remaining games against the Sox.

If they win 4 of those 6, they would have to do something like go 16-8 in the rest of their games, and the Sox would have to go 13-15 in their other games. That would be a pretty big drop.

But if they could pull off 5 of the 6, and play 15-9 over the other games, they could catch the Sox if they play 500 ball (14-14).

At this point, if they can win 3 of the remaing 5 from the Sox, they'll be effectively tied.

Here's my prediction on the AL since I've been flipping between a lot of the games lately and have seen everyone play. East: Yankees. Central: White Sox. West: Angels. Wild Card: Indians.
I'm going to stick with this prediction. As an Indians fan though, I hope it ends up East: Red Sox, Central: Cleveland, West: A's, Wild Card: White Sox.

It's definitely one of the best races in the AL in recent memory. Right now there are 6 teams competing for the 4 playoff spots, and, for the most part, who makes it is a toss up. Although the ChiSox haven't clinched a playoff berth yet, it's tough to see the not playing in October. So if you take the ChiSox and one playoffs spot out of the mix, you end up with 5 teams competing for 3 spots, each within 1.5 games of at least one of the spots. It's going to be quite a race to the finish.

Don't be so sure about the chisox making the playoffs.

Yeah, I hadn't looked closely enough at how close everyone else is to them now. That 4-6 record over the last 10 games isn't all that impressive either. 6 teams for 4 spots. Hands down the best race I can remember.

It's about time. Finally the Big Useless did something useful. That was actually a very good game.
