someone said "its entertainment" yeah thats right. how entertaining. next time i want entertainment, ill go and watch someone CALL SOMEONE ELSE. great. stuff like this reminds me of something that would happen in the WWF (or WWE or whatever) i want to watch FOOTBALL, not dancing. if you go to football game to watch people dance in the endzone i hope you die by choking on your own puke. these people are probably the same people who go to baseball games for the scenery:mad:

Wow, die choking on puke, that's kinda harsh.
I don't understand why don't the media just ignore these goofy end zone dances?
If they never got press people wouldn't care all that much. It's not so much that Joe Horn used a cell phone that pisses people off, it's that he's getting so much fame because of it...

Anyone see the one with David Carr making fun of Horn, they looked for the phone and couldn't find it. The Texans had to go and lose the game (great for my fantasty team though because the last TD really helped McNair.)

happy its not the fact that he actually made a phone call that is entertaining its that he actually planted it there and made a phone call. maybe i find it entertaining bcuz he wuz said enuff to do it. i dunno. but really now mr. burgerking has become mr. morality. yea renaming urself to burgerking for money is perfectly fine but celebrating a touchdown isnt. wut do u wanna watch robots play football? i mean that way u wouldnt have to worry about people actually getting excited and showing emotion.

Obviously Joe Horn suceeded in his antics, as we are still talking about it. I think it was Chad Johnson who said that every time he does something to get fined, the buzz generated from the act makes him twice as much as what the fine was. Didn't Warren Sapp get fined for throwing his helmet off, and he explained it by saying that football players' wear helmets, which harms their marketing opportunities... So he was trying to get himself some exposure.
I think what it comes down to is players who see the game as a stage for them, they think they are bigger than the game. The media builds it up while they decry it all, yet at the same time they benefit from increased awareness and visibility. Here in Chicago, the media "pleaded" with the public to give Steve Bartman a break, all the while, they showed his house and work on TV, and told us all details of his life...
The media loves a big story, to them its like the holiday season is to a retailer... Why not hype things up to bump up your ratings???
But enough about my feelings about the media. I just meant to say that events like this are symptomatic of what's going on in pro sports today... Stars are hyped to be bigger than the game, all the while they are expected to play a team sport... and some can do this, but some cannot. You can see what drives a player through this, ie. money and maketing opportunities or winning and competition. My favorite athletes are the ones who don't celebrate after a score, guys like Barry Sanders... I hated him while he played because I'm a Bears fan, but I had a ton of respect for him.
Letting the other team take cheap shots at showboaters isn't a bad idea, but it'd never happen, imagine the furor if your team's star broke a colarbone on such a play... although it has definite value as a deterrant

I saw them hit a guy once celebrating in the XFL, that was funny but most of these celebrations are crappy. Just go score another. When you break a record, then celebrate a little.

"when you get into the endzone, act like you've been there before" Horn may or may not be getting what he wants, but i know if i were a football team, i wouldnt offer him very much. obviously he felt that it was a better use of his time to plant a cell phone than to get rest before the game, or to practice.
