It's definately harder for some than for others. My first girlfriend was a social smoker. She could smoke a pack a day for a couple months, and then stop and never notice it--damndest thing I ever saw. And she could have one here or there and then stop again for another couple months. I could never do that. I think there are probably a lot of people who aren't or are only mildly addicted who could quit easily and barely notice it. Definately not me.

Good luck Scammy. My Dad's side of the family is full of smokers. My dad is the only one in his family who has never smoked a cigarette in his life. He just cant stand the smell of the smoke and I guess growing up around it his entire life caused him to just hate it. I cant stand when people smoke, especially at restaurants. I cant eat with that cigarette smell. My aunt finally quit a couple years ago because my uncle had a heart attack and he couldnt be around the smoke anymore. That obviously caused both of them to quit. My Grandpa is the biggest chain smoker I have ever seen. He wakes up in the morning and comes down stairs with a cigarette in his mouth. My mom has tried to quit a couple times but that only lasts for about a day and my aunt has tried many times also and has gone for some decent periods of time without smoking but then goes back. My friend smokes and no matter how hard she tries she cant quit. Sometimes she gets to the point where she has trouble breathing and really feels like crap even though she isnt really a heavy smoker but she still cant quit. Its horrible that something like that is so addictive. Anyway good luck Scammy, you will have alot more money and feel alot better without them once your fully off them.

Try eating those baby carrots. They are addicting, and they definitely taste better than cigs. I bet that would help, just munching on them.

Haha, that's me, at least until today. I haven't(smoke!) had a cig all morning and it is(smoke!) driving me nuts. I swear I have never chewed(smoke!) on gum this hard before, and my hands are shaking a bit. Geeze, (smoke!) it's only been like 9 hours but I'm already getting jittery and excited from not having one. SMOKE!!!

How long have you been a smoker? I'm not sure if you mentioned it or not.

I was a smoker for about 5 years before I, finally, was able to give it up.
Hang in there! Cold turkey really is the only way it works!

I've been smoking since I was 13, so roughly 7 years. After I turned 18 and could buy them legally I started smoking nearly 2 packs a day. I was a heavy chain smoker, so I decided to quit just for money reasons...and because I miss breathing at a normal pace.

Anyway, still no cigarette for me but it's been a horrible day. I've already yelled at somebody just for saying good morning to me. But I've found a way to help me break the habit, hello food. Damn I'm gonna gain 50 pounds by the time I'm done. But it's either smoke, eat, or pry my eyes out. Right now I choose eat

How's it going? I really respect you for trying to quit, whether you make it or not. I've heard it's about impossible to quit, but I can't even begin to imagine....

Well I've smoked 1 cigarette in the past two days(got it from someone), but that's a lot better than the 2 packs a day I was smoking before. It's very hard, especially sleeping. I really can't sleep for more than an hour at a time. But I'm doing better than I thought I would, and I know the benefits of quiting are worth it

definately not impossible to quit, cold turkey is still the best way to do it, IMO

Hey scam, go eat some cold turkey for us, will ya? As an experiment. That retarded phrase has to come from somewhere. Maybe it helps.

Just out of curiosity, to those of you on this thread who smoke, when did you start and why?

I had turkey last night for dinner, it didn't do much for cravings. I have no clue where that saying came from. I started smoking when I was 13 because it was something to do. I lived in a really small town that had a lot of woods, so me and my friends would steal a pack of cigs from the store then go back in the woods and just chill. When you're 13 in a small town cigarettes are kinda like your drugs, it's wrong and kills time, so you do it.

Of course as I got older addiction kicked in and there was no turning back...until now.

Well shucks I thought he was quitting for good, its an very tough thing though. But a few a day is better than a pack a day
