Im pretty sure it would be very difficult to do this. For one thing, most people's minor league teams are not actual teams. for example my RonSL team had 0 minor league pitchers for years (i have 1 now).

I know that was the biggest problem, so some people thought you would have to make a 25 man team or something. Yes i know that would take away from improvements but that would help talent inflatin in the long run.

actually it would just force you to put all your good young players in the major leagues.

But you wouldn't know who they were! That's the point. You'd keep young guys in the minors to "learn" who was a good prospect and who wasn't. You'd have to pay attention to player development that way. Obviously you would also have a bunch of older players filling out your minors, kind of like AAA teams do now anyway. I think it would actually be pretty realistic.

The key, really, is finding someone in our community who knows about writing codes to see how much work this really would be.

This could be a lot of fun, but it sounds like a ton of work.

I'm glad there is a lot of interest, but you're right that we just need to find someone who can speculate on the technical feasability side of things. I REALLY hope we can do this, or move toward it somehow...!

Try a blind league, they are like this but a lot better.

Teams know approximately how good players are, especially on certain skills (such as speed). Any idiot knows that Rickey Henderson is faster than Cecil Fielder, but in this league you wouldn't be able to tell who was better unless oyu play both of them a lot and set your steal prefs up.

I actually would settle for going one step beyond plusses and minuses going away and improvements being invisible.

Imagine the impact of changing how you see grades so that everything from A- up shows as "A," everything from C to B+ shows as "B" and everything from C- down shows as "C." Or something like that.

You would know which young players have great skills in a certain area, but the rest would only become clear with playing time. I think that's fairly realistic. A guy with great power in the minors might become a fine big-league hitter, or he might never figure out how to hit curves.

yeah, that is more realistic than showing nothing at all.

Should you do each category separate or only do the overall grade? Because just the overall grade, stats are still important, but you know which minor leaguers should have cp's and stuff. Well you have an idea.

Isn't that how the Tony Conigliaro league works? I'm thinking of dumping one of my teams and waiting for an opening in the TCL if that's the case, just to try it out.

i think there is more than 1 league that has blind league rules. Im not sure which ones.

ok, nevermind, i think im wrong. But you guys could try to put together another blind league because there will probably be a lot of interest.

The TCL only removed the +'s and -'s while we are looking to remove even more than that. To make it less predictable.

Here's a link to the Tony Conigliaro League rules:

Rules

We have removed visibility of all improvements, in both boxes and offseason. We have removed plusses and minuses.

We have also put in some draft rules that encourage competition. There is a lottery for all non-playoff teams, but it's weighted so that being the worst team does not get you the best chance but doesn't let you fall too far, either. Playoff teams don't get their first pick until after all other teams have had their first two picks. It makes it a lot harder to stay on top when you keep drafting 25th or later every year. I've never had a bluechip prospect since the initial draft.

We also have vet rules that force you to play a certain number of older players (soon to be moot with the site-wide mentoring change, I suspect), and that has kept talent inflation down. We dont' permit CP trading, and I've got a few stiffs getting CP right now whereas in my dynasty league in similar straits I have traded some of my CP away. That inflates talent, too.

To give you an example of things you don't often see in other leagues that have reached 1960, there are C-rated pitchers in the majors on competitive teams and no one has great depth. You still have plenty of stars, of course, but the uncertainty of how good guys are creates situations where players get a lot of ABs/IP before the owner decides he's not going to improve enough to be great.

I do think it's possible to start a new blind league with a few more restrictions and create even more parity and less talent inflation. We're definitely on the right track, though.
