they don't. But skier said earlier that they can't make the playoffs this year with Park, or beat the upper echelon teams.

While that's true last time I checked the trade deadline was set for 4 PM Sunday and they have the luxury of being able to shop a hitter of Alfonso Soriano's caliber, who is one of if not the most in-demand players on the trade market. There's still plenty of time for them to make a pitching upgrade.

3.5 is massive considering who's in front of them. They won't make the playoffs this year, why do you think it's even remotely possible?

Yes, they have a massive 3.5 game deficit in the Wild Card standings....

Atta boy Skier.

Too bad they will probably miss the playoffs by a slim margin like last year though :(

Alfonso needs to be dealt for an Sp..

Its remotely possible because we have a huge chip on the market. Alfonso Soriano.

If we get a solid SP for him than that 3.5 game margin isnt so "massive" anymore.

Because team's have come back from way more than 3.5 games back the top two wild card teams are Oakland who's been terribly inconsistent and the Yankees who's starting rotation features a creaky Big Unit, Mike Mussina, and 3 fringe major leaguers. Throw in the Twins who just lost Torii Hunter for 4-6 weeks and the fact that the trade deadline isn't over and the Rangers have a chance to upgrade their pitching by dealing Soriano and it is definitely possible.

Now, I'm off to go watch my leisure activities, like cycling...

Wow. This is worthy of the sig.

The cycling bit was nice, too.

It pains me to say it... but it is true.

obviously his 5.66 ERA WAS helping, he was 8-5.

it's called "run support"

the Rangers' play in extreme hitters park which makes their pitchers look crappier and their hitters look better - they need another bad - Nevin can be a DH and Dellucci can move back to the OF, which has been a problem for them for some time.

Nevin also played in an extreme pitchers park in Petco so he should see a spike in his numbers upon arriving in Tejas, but what do I know... I thought cycling was a sport.

Nevin's a bum, and apparently a shitty teammate too. This is a salary dump with Nevin as an incidental part. But any deal that gets rid of Park's hideous contract (the real albatross that killed the early 2000's Rangers, and not Alex Rodriguez's deal) is a good thing for Texas.

In any event, guys, this is a good deal for the Padres, a team that has a great chance of making the playoffs. Sure Park may have an ERA north of five now, but send him to the vastity of Petco and he might regain some of that Dodger Stadium glory that earned him that contract.

The Padres have been needing to dump Nevin (they have Xavier Nady to replace him) for years, and have needed to upgrade their staff all season. Know who started tonight's game for San Diego? Pedro Astacio. I bet you guys didn't know that he was still in baseball.

And don't forget that Park, who has an excellent track record in pitchers parks, is a vast improvement over Sidney Ponson, the guy with one decent season back in '03 who they wanted to trade Nevin for last week, and this looks like a great move for the NL West leaders.
