Haha. I like how we have drew on both the successful and unsuccessful moves. Very fitting. Overall I agree he is top 5 gm. When you add up the years and total dollars of my list it dwarfs yours and that has to be factored in.
fair enough. i imagine you'd also have to adjust for current value though, and probably do some kind of comparison of average league contract at that time to do a truly fair study. at that point i thihk you might be surprised how close those lists are.
I agree overall he is a really good gm, his tenure in Boston was a success but he has a weakness which even he admits to. That's all.
had you said that from the beginning i doubt any of this conversation would have taken place.

Love debating Boston sports. Any sports really.

the thread was worth it because we talked about joe blanton and we can never talk enough about how much that thing sucks.

Well then a good deed has been done. Just to bring it full circle, theo, outraged he missed out on a horrible big money free agent contract tried to rectify the issue in 2010 by trading for him

Ok so coming from a big White Sox fan, this trade is awesome right now. I was excited the day he came over to the Sox and I'm still excited. Player of the Week and we are in first place. Williams is normally a huge douche bag, but this trade rules.
I'm way happy and Youk looks thrilled to be playing in Chicago, at least for now. woo hoo
Thought I'd change the subject from talking about the damn Red Sox.

Well I would be thrilled too if Bobby Valentine were no longer my manager.
