If, after reading this thread you can't tell that Tyles roots for Seattle, you root for Washington and I root for Denver, then you must have attended classes with...

Oh yeah...it's not the OGL. Rephrase to "Then you must have poor reading comprehension skills."

the skins are my team. its not a matter of ownership, its a matter of allegiance. This isnt some sort of phenomenon that is specific to sports. "my country", "my senator", and "my president" for example.

The 'Skins *snicker*. All that money spent on coaches and big ticket free agent signings have resulted in two winning seasons since Joe Gibbs first retirement.

1996 + 1997 + 1999 + 2005 + 2007 = 2 winning seasons?

This is stupid. I used the phrase "my coach." Maybe you should try taking more ownership of your favorite teams, it might lead to you rooting for less of them.

joe gibbs retired following the 1999 season, previous to that he was actually working as janitor under his pen name "Sylvester Snead"

he is being a stickler for a false semantical point. Its even more tedious than being a stickler for a legitimately correct semantical point.

Correct or not, "semantical" points are never legitimate.

You can claim teams as "yours" if you so choose...but it's my pet peeve and I'm sticking with it.

(My bad for misstating the 'Skins winning seasons. Looks like I screwed up that joke.)

((Of course, their overall record since he left, by won-loss record or winning vs. losing seasons, is still quite pitiful.))

Oh man, 1997. That was the best.

My formative football years involve a Heath Shuler/Gus Frerotte quarterback controversy.

You don't really equate those as similar, do you?

if it's "my team", then it's "my coach".

my team made the playoffs in resounding fashion, and my coach is safe for another year.

he ain't much of a head coach, but he sure can get a defense together.

they have to be the most feared team in the NFC heading into the playoffs after three straight dominating efforts, 2 of which are very good teams, the other an intense rivalry.

until denver replaces craig morton, errr... kyle orton, they'll never go anywhere.

It's not Morton, err, Orton. It's the fact that this offense doesn't pass deeper than 20 yards, which means defenses can play their red zone defense the whole game without worrying about giving up the big play.

I don't see the broncs enuff to really know, but orton has never impressed me as a championship quality QB.

Orton is what is best described as a "game manager".

He won't win you the game, but he also won't lose it for you, either.

Just to revisit the fact that Josh McDaniels traded what turned out to be the #14 pick in a good draft class for the #37 pick in what was considered a relatively weak draft class. For not being patient, he wound up with this level of production last season.

Yes Josh, we're looking at you, and we don't like what we see.... The defense obviously needed playmakers, and Orakpo was there for you, yet you selected a running back at 12? I know we're supposed to wait a few years before evaluating any draft, but McDaniels made both tactical and strategic mistakes the first time...and I don't have much hope that he'll make better decisions this time around.

The combined haul for Cutler and Marshall could look incredibly mediocre after Thursday (though I guess there will still be the 2011 second round pick for Josh to screw up). Oy vey...

To be fair, McDaniels didn't have the benefit of months of scouting for that draft. That being said, this draft he best not censored up because he'll have nobody to blame but himself.

what the organization doesn't work at evaluating potential draftees until he gets to town? he doesn't know anything about the talent available before he gets to denver? that's kind of silly, don't you think?

McDaniels was hired in January, slightly more than three months before the draft. That he spent much of his time trying to trade, then alienating, then trying to trade Cutler, rather than preparing for the draft, is his own fault.

Of course, as Deke mentioned, the Broncos scouting organization was obviously working as usual...and I'm sure McDaniels had access to the Patriots scouting information before taking the job in Denver. So there is no reason to conclude that he would be significantly underprepared.

(And, if McDaniels was underprepared, there is even LESS of a reason to deal a pick in the first round of a future draft...for which he would have more time to prepare...in exchange for a current second round pick...to select a player whom he's had less time to evaluate.)

Gosh, you're right. Tell ya what, why don't you apply for the job since you seem to know exactly how an NFL organization should be run, and then let me know how that works out?

Cutler was shown last year to be a great talent with little between his ears. I think that is exactly why McDaniels wanted him gone. Orton is great at thinking the game, but lacks the talent that Cutler has. Basically his body can't make the throws that he wants to make in his mind.

Everybody seems to forget the free agency pickups he made last year that turned otu to be very good grabs. He beefed our secondary up with veteran talent, which did allow our front 7 to make mistakes converting from a 4-3 to a 3-4.

My biggest disappointment from last season was actually letting yet another D Coordinator go after 1 season.

I might also add that, if McDaniels was privy to the Patriots scouting reports on both sides of the ball (doubtful, since he was the Offensive Coordinator), it still wouldn't have helped him in Denver, unless you're also saying that the Patriots and Broncos' needs were identical, which they weren't.

So Miami gets a 2nd (40) and a 4th (126) for the 12th pick (though they also gave up a linebacker and moved back to #28)...while Denver gets two 3rds (70 and 87) and a 4th (113) for the 11th pick (and moved back to #24).

Color me unimpressed.
