Which is why the Raiders drafted him.

The more I look at it, the more it seems that Al Davis was tied to a chair and locked in a closet during the draft.

Or the infinite number of monkeys on an infinite number of typewriters finally wrote Shakespeare.

Or they let Al Davis "make the call" and then his call was interpreted by others.

Al: "I'll pick Colt McCoy!"

GM" Excellent, Al! Okay folks, what Al means is the college that Colt McCoy went to. Obviously by listing an offensive player, a quarterback, Al actually means Lamarr Houston, defensive tackle, Texas."

Al: "I said Colt McCoy!"

GM: "yes, Al. Don't you worry, we'll get that Houston guy."

Can My Personal Broncos Fan Experience Get Any Worse?

Broncos LT Ryan Clady tore the patellar tendon in his left knee while playing basketball recently.

As Clady confirmed, the injury required surgery. A 2009 All-Pro, Clady claims he'll miss only(?) three months of action. Profootballtalk.com suggests free agent Flozell Adams as an option in Denver, which makes sense with the Broncos installing a power-blocking scheme. Clady won't get a chance to learn the new system during minicamps and OTAs. Despite the optimistic timetable he's given himself, Clady seems unlikely to be ready for the start of training camp in late July. We'd consider him very questionable for Week 1.

Dear Mr. Bowlen,

Please keep Flozell Adams from getting anywhere close to the Broncos roster. Your hiring of Josh McDaniels, and the subsequent direction of the team, has been hard enough to take. Flozell would just about push me over the edge.

Signed,
A long-time (though now disgruntled) Broncos fan.

I hate to break it to you:

1. John Elway has been retired for 11 years. There will never be another QB of his caliber that will play for this team in your lifetime.
2. Mike Shanahan is not the head coach of the Broncos. Get over it already.
3. McDaniels managed to accomplish the first part of a major rebuild without losing any ground in terms of win-Loss record; the same average that Mike Shanahan had over his last three seasons as Broncos head coach.
4. McDaniels will be here for at least the next 2-3 years, barring a 2-14 record.

1. Where have I ever said anything about Elway? What point are you addressing?

2. This is not about liking Shanahan. The thread title is not "Rehire Mike Shanahan". This is about not liking (as a coach) Josh McDaniels.

3. Have the moves McDaniels has made truly improved the team? His DC hire from last season is gone. His best FA acquisition thus far (Dawkins) is unlikely to be part of the next true contender in Denver. The QB he wanted (Cassell) was worse that the QB he alienated, and the QBs he has are considered less talented than either of them. Granted he is making moves, but I don't "feel" like the team is getting better. (In reality, I will be the first one to admit that I haven't given his plan a chance, and that it typically takes three-to-four seasons to build a true Super Bowl contender...but this thread started as a rant, mind you.)

4. I know...and then Bowlen will be searching for someone to clean up the mess McDaniels has made.

1. presumption of most Broncos fans, Apologies. Most Donks fans who I talk football with don't understand football. Hence the Tebow jersey extravaganza.

2. McDaniels and what we were used to with Shanahan are night and day in their approach to the press and transparency. You'll get no argument out of me about that. It does drive be nuts sometimes.

3. Yes. Shifting to a 3-4 put Elvis Dumerville in position to use his size and quickness to the best of his ability, though to be fair, I didn't think Dumerville would make that transition as cleanly as he was able to. Additionally picking up ther backup Nose tackles from the Pats, Ravens, and Chargers will do wonders for our front 7. Now we have a D line of players with extensive 3-4 experience. I would like to keep a DC around for longer than a year, though. That hasn't changed from when Shanahan was coach.

4. I don't see the doom and gloom that I was seeing this time last year.

Did you hear? Tim Tebow is awesome! He attended the rookie minicamp and did everything he was asked to do! ESPN is saying it's the bestest thing ever, so it must be true.

As glad as I am that Denver drafted Tebow, can we approach this with some realism, please? Tebow did nothing special. It's a flipping rookie minicamp.

Why would you be glad that your team drafted Tim Tebow?

that's not really fair, craig. there are a lot of fans of numerous teams who would/could be justifiably glad their team drafted tebow in, say, the third round. the proper question i think is:

why would you be glad your team traded up into the first round to draft tebow?

This is the real head-scratcher for me. Is Darens adding that qualifier to imply he does like Josh McDaniels as a person? Because by all accounts, dude is a giant asshat.

I couldn't care less about how he is as a person. John Elway is a raging censored from the times I have had run-ins with him in person (including the Greeley, CO sidewalk incident), but I'll never deny his talent as a QB.

I think McDaniels is doing a great job fielding the players he wants to field.

I didn't say you should. It's weird that Darens made the distinction, and also you are clinically insane.

I was distinguishing between someone like Belichick, whom I don't much like as a person (though I think he is a good football coach and great talent evaluator), and McDaniels (of whom I don't know enough about to say much about him as a person), but whom I dislike as a football head coach.

On this we can agree. Now, whether those players will help the Broncos is another story.

No, call it a Pavlovian response to every Dallas fan. Instead of drooling when I hear a bell ring, I disregard the football opinion of anyone who tells me they're a Cowboys fan.
