He'll play this year. The article all but says he will, and there's no way the NCAA isn't going to want to cut him slack on this. There's plenty of gray area (the person giving the benefit is the father of a teammate and friend of Jarrett's, not some shady agent) to allow the NCAA to save face by reinstating him with a slap on the wrist.

The Reggie Bush thing was much, much worse. This is nothing, the sort of benefit that you could legitimately get even if you weren't an athlete. It's improper, and Leinart's dad should have known that, but it's not going to lead to any major consequences other than Jarrett having to turn over some of his first NFL paycheck to him.

This was nothing. But I stand by my assertion (in the Bomar thread) that college sports are a disaster of biblical proportion.
