setting rules

September 01, 2003 at 10:08PM View BBCode

its a nice idea to set rules to help the league run farily and smoothly, and i know that crusaders and yankees have been very good about contacting the teams that they dont see posting msgs; but setting rules for people that arent taking part in the discussion has a good chance not to work. the more i think about it if we do not get a consensus of how we will deal with disenters whatever their opinion may be i will have to take actions that will be solely in the best interest of my team. the 5-6 teams that post semi-regulary may all agree that these rules are best, and i do feel that there needs to be some sort of control , how can we realisticly enforce a rule among lets say another5-6 who are either unaware or not part of the discussion. maybe our league needs to establish itself some sort of governing body. saying simply that we will not trade with multiple teams may end up ruining the league as a whole. one team being on a sort of black list may work for maybe a season, but imagine a league where all of a sudden 6 teams are willing to trade with eachother and the rest of the league is outcast because they did agree with our majority vote. just a few problems that i percieve happening in the near future.

I hear what you are saying. I mentioned in an earlier post that everyone should agree to any rule we set since this is not a custom league. If someone will not agree to it, for whatever reason, it would not be fair to penalize them. When you sign up for a Dynasty League, there is no mention of rules such as this. You know up front in a Custom League. Still, if everyone agrees to abide by a rule and THEN breaks it, I have no problem enforcing a penalty.

we need to set a time ...

when everyone in this league is expected to agree to the timeline for waiver wire activity or not. if we arent going to have the rule unless everyone agrees we need to know if we have to get to our computers right away or do we have to wait 12 hrs. we also need to know if we are in agreement about the quanity of transactions. i think crusaders or yankees if one of you guys could say or nay it the night before the draft. not to heap responsibility on you, but just because i know you guys will be paying attention, and i try and avoid responsibility. these are all ideas.

I'm for simdynasty's rulles that were set up from the beginning. I enjoy this league, but i do not have as much time to put towards the game as I would like too.So changing rules is at a disavantage too me. I'll try too stay more active, I do log in every day and keep my line up up to date.

as Keth stated, a change of "rules", or in the way of doing things, would have to be almost unanimous, (inactive teams excluded). any punishment would only be required to those who violate an agreed on rule.
any changes can not be by majority, has to be all active teams agreeing.
i see that some leagues have "moderators", what do they do, who selects them, and can (should) we have one for our league???

decided for us. we would all be pretty stupid to limit ourselves if one of the competitors is against the rule. i for one will try and be a gentleman about the moves i make right out of the gate, but i will not put myself at a disadvantage. if all the players i have that could be retiring after this season do i will have no choice but to replace them on my roster., and i will do so as quickly as possible. i will say right now that i will not trade out my c- prospects or 29 yr old pitchers for 18 yr olds right away. i will make only the moves that i have to make. i think that is the best i can offer unless i know for certain that everyone is abiding by the same rule. i hope you guys understand.
