Silly player names

June 27, 2002 at 05:55AM View BBCode

I've noticed some silliness with a new(?) owner of one of the Beta teams. At least try and use some real names. My team is named after one of the Negro League teams and contains player names from that team and other teams of the era. A whole lot more fun than naming a player GED. IMHO anyways!

I have renamed my players.

I have renamed my players. They are all current major leaguers except to my namesake, and 57 (Me being from STL and a Giants Cardinals fan I think you can figure that one out). Although they are named after current MLB players they all have a reason for being on my team (Something in common). So now here is the trick, if you can tell me what it is I'll let you name one of my players!

Fun game. I can't really figure it out, I have 2 guesses though.

All Former All Stars?

Or all guys who will be free agents at the end of the year?

I got it:

"Who are 40 people who have never been in my kitchen?"

It seems as if an awful lot of them have played in Chicago at one time or another, is that it?

No not chicago or former all-stars.

I have changed some of the players to hopefully make the answer easier to come by. Here is the hint which resulted in the player changes though all the originals did have somethign in common they are now even more of a select team.

The overall theme still exists but here is a more specific hint to help.
All Catchers on my team and 2B's have something in common.
All 1B's and OF's have something in common.
All 3B's and SS's have something in common.

There aren't enough pitchers for me to make such a select specific group but they do all have something in common.

Hope this makes it a little easier. Especially for those of you who know some of these players.

And it is interesting that many did play in chicago, never realized that until after I looked it up. Wacky.
Good luck.

In addition

In addition to the players I was able to come up with a list of pitchers that might help. Again keeping with the overall them eI was able to even further distinguish these pitchers.

The starters on my team all have something in common. I mean the guys I have in sport 1st -5th starter. Except fo rme of course though I wish.
The relivers have something in common. The guys in the long, middle, setup, and closer roles.
And finally, my minor league pitchers have something in common. I added Daryl Kile to this list because I was one short and Hint: He was but isn't anymore. And he would have?
Interestingly enough, Bread Radke could have been either a Starter or a Reliever for my team.

Wow, I have no idea. But someone better figure it out quick, because I'm deleting all the rookies to run the draft again!

a suggestion on player names.. it would be cool to have a nickname area on the player cards that we could add a name or maybe one is given and we could change it. ive seen some of the names that were changed and some arent even names at all! no offense to anyone thats done it, but it doesnt make the league feel all that realistic hitting or pitching against guys who are sentences and not a name. just my thoughts. i dont mean to offend or pick on anyone by posting this.
