November 30, 2007 at 04:02AM View BBCode
Hank Blalock is on pace for 87 HR and 223 RBI...
284 hits
203 runs
Akinori Otsuka(out of the pen) is on pace for 31 wins.
Can anyone beat Texas over there ?????
1st Quarter Power Rankings.
1. Washington
Hank Blalock is on pace to shatter 4 major league batting records, and Kason Gabbard and Aki Otsuka are on pace to combine for 60 wins. This team is coming off an 11 game winning streak and is hitting collectively .300. Washington boasts the top 4 MVP candidates. They might wrap things up early. Icing on the cake: The team already has an 11 game lead and has the lowest ERA in the American League by nearly a point.
2. Philadelphia
The Peas have the best starting rotation in the NL and Denny Valdez is a serious MVP candidate. This team has committed only 6 errors all year. Why are they only 1 game over .500 ? I can't figure it out. As of now the NL is wide open.
3. Kansas City
The rest of the AL teams might be fighting for the wild card slot, if Washington pulls away early. Lee White is on pace for 56 Home Runs but the team as a whole is hitting only .249.
4. Cleveland
Gilberto Chapin has been exceptional, leading the majors in ERA, but the team needs more bullpen depth to hang around.
5. Milwaukee
The offense is exceptionally potent, with seven regulars hitting over .300. The team has managed to tenuously slug its way into first in the senior circut. The pitching, however, has been awful, and Jeff Sanchez is terribly underperforming.
6. Chicago White Sox
The Sox are a balanced team, with a good pitching staff. However, the Pale Hose have to find some power if they want to hang around with Washington. As a team, they are slugging under .400, which won't cut it.
7. Pittsburg
As of late, Pittsburg has been the best team in the NL. Wally Cokeley has been lights out of the pen. Getting Mike Scott back will really help out this team going forward.
8. St. Louis
Hynek Krusina returns off the DL next week, which is good news for a team that has used eight different starting pitchers. St. Louis has been treading water while waiting for its pitching staff to get healthy, which right now has two pitchers with A ratings on the DL. The St. Louis defense has been atrocious, and Mark Anthony has only thrown out less than 20% of attempted baserunners. John Hunyadi is hitting .401.
9. Cincinatti
Cincinatti began the season with probably the strongest pitching staff, but that has yet to pay dividends. Ovid Bedford has been the best closer in baseball so far. Acquiring Rigo Stewart from Boston has put a premium speed threat at the top of this lineup.
10. Brooklyn
Quietly, this team is leading the NL in WHIP and has just won two games against St. Louis on the road. Red Frasier is a leading MVP candidate.
11. New York Mets
Dan Wakefield and Al Lee have been fantastic at the top of the rotation, and each is on pace for 24 wins. Finding another power bat should be a priority.
12. Baltimore
Kennie Vukovich has an ERA under 1, and Ralph Kling has been excellent. The rest of the pitching, unfortunately, has been somewhere between mediocre and subpar. There is little else to say about this team.
13. New York Yankees
Norm Lopata is the team MVP, but he'll need help if the Yanks want to remain in the race. Getting Maldonado back will help things out. This team could use a left- handed bat and help in the bullpen.
14. Detroit
No Tiger starter save Mancuso has an ERA under six, and that is a problem. Several of their pitchers are underperforming, and if this team is going to contend, that can not continue. Dick Lyons is the best third baseman in baseball not named Hank Blalock.
15. Boston
Hideki Bright(half-japanese ?), was on fire before going on the disabled list. His absence from the lineup is a gaping wound to this team, which descended in the standings. Acquiring Max Fanok should help this team's power, but Rigo Stewart, whom was leading baseball in steals, was sent to Cincinatti. This team should now be looking for a third baseman and a quaity reliever if they wish to reenter the race.
16 Chicago Cubs
The Cubs are trying to recover from a terrible start. The team as a whole has the worst ERA and fielding percentage in baseball, which is killing this team. Behind Lou Rusie, rotation is a disaster. On the positive side, Salomon Farmer is on pace for 40 home runs and Pat Baker has been, overall, the best catcher in baseball.
