Welcome to the new owners

I want to welcome all of the new owners to the Jimmie Foxx League.

The JFL is one of the most challenging leagues in SimDynasty. The hidden nature of the league, no +/-'s and hidden improves, makes it very difficult to distinguish the studs from the duds. Success in this league is derived from hard work.

The ammy draft is the key as in any league. The more work you put into the draft the better prospects that you will come up with. Unlike other leagues, when you sort the draft class by power -vs- RHP for example, you will get a true sort of best to worst. You will not get a group of C+ guys sorted from youngest to oldest. This holds true in all of the catagories.

You can use your GM promote/demote function to get a good indication of the players that are on your roster.

This league is driven more by pure statistical indicators than by any other measuring stick. When trying to trade it is very important to look closely at the individual that you wish to trade for. Their power numbers, i.e. Hr's, SPC etc... stolen base percentage will give you a good idea about the player's speed. ERA and WHIP are good indicators for the pitchers as well as their BB to KO ratio.

Please do not hesitate to ask for some advice. I for one will gladly help with any questions that you might have and I'm sure that most of the vetern owners would too. Either post your question on the league message board or send someone a u2u. The trade advice board on the main sight is another good source for advice. Though many of the people that respond to that sight do not have much erxperience with 'blind' leagues.

Please take the time to read THE JIMMIE FOXX LEAGUE RULES. You will find that the league is pretty lax in many areas. There are no catcher rules. You can play whomever you want at catcher. There are no rules about playing players out of position and no rules about the number of vets that you must play.

However, the league is adamandt about retaining the original 1955 team nicknames and there is a rule about renaminjg players. You must submit a request to rename a player to a league vote and then receive a 2/3 majority of votes inorder to change a players name or you must receive permission from the league commish.

Six of the new owners have changed their team's nickname. I must ask that they please change the name back to the team's original name. This can be done through the EDIT PROFILE drop down under the owner header. Ask for assistance if you have difficulty in complying with this league rule.

During the extended layoff, a three owner veterns committee worked on reestablishing the JFL HOF. This committee consisted of The_Old_Bear (St. Louis), Spinelli1234 (New York Giants) and myself (Washington). We have voted in players that retired during the period of 1987 through 1999. I would like to bring the league to the point were we are voting on players that retired five years prior to the start of a new season. This means that we still have some catching up to do.

I think that the veterns committee was an excellent way to get us caught up and I would like to continue that concept for a while. I would be interested in expanding the committee to a total of 5 owners to work us through the next several classes and to then provide for league wide participation once we are fully caught up. If there are any other owners that would like to join the three of use, please let me know.

The JFL also offers a league prize. $5.00 of the fee that you paid to join this league goes into a pool to provide for the league prize. First place in the league prize formula gets you a free renewal while 2nd place getrs a $20 discount towards renewal. The current formula can be found in the JFL rules.

That formula is rather complex and an SOB to figure out.

One of the things that I would like to do is to consider other options in determining the system that we use to award the prizes. If anyone has an alternate system that they are aware of from another league, please let me know. This is a change that would have to be voted on by the entire league.

I for one am eagerly awaiting the resumption of play in the JFL. This has been a rather long down time. I hope that your experience in this league is a good one and that we are able to retain more of the new owners at the end of this session.

One of the things that extended the down time was captscott71 idicated that he was going to renew his team and then he never did. I made many attempts to contact him via u2u and E-mail without success. Please make sure that your u2u address is the proper one and also please make sure that your E-mail address is also current. If you do not want other owners to know your E-mail address please send that informatyion to me in a u2u. I do need to have current information on all league members for administrative purposes.

Thanks for taking the time to read this rather lengthy dissertation and once again I wish to welcome all of the new owners toi the JFL

Let's play ball!!!!!!

That is right up my alley, I log on to simdynasty every half hour at least, and in my last league tried to start our own HOF, although that didn't turn out so well. So I would love to be admitted to this committee, just tell me what I need to do.

First thing that I want to do is to go back over the voting for the '87 thru '99 classes and see if we screwed up anywhere.

Secondly, and with an expanded committee, get thru the classes from 2000 thru 2005.

Thirdly, with full league participation, vote on the 2006 class by the end of this current season.

If you are interested in joining the expanded committee, I suggest that you review all of the nominees from the classes of '87 thru '99. That should give you a good idea of the type of player that would consitute a JFL HOF'er.

Other than that there is no other qualification needed. Just be a dependable part of the process.
