I think the Angels are way overspending here. They want better pitchers and this guy may have some talent but he is not worth all that money for 3 years. This is just another example of a middle-market team overspending.

The Angels are about to sign Kelvim Escobar to a $18.75M/3 years ($6.25M/year). Escober has played with the Blue Jays his whole career, reverting from starter to closer to starter again.In 2003 he was 13-9 4.71ERA 180.2 IP in 26 starts and 15 relief apperances.

thats money they can spend on a slugger or a better pitcher so too bad. they want to contend and they can easily pay a budget somewhere around $90 million. they might contend this year, but theyll eventually find themselves in the same position as la and ny mets. this is what happens when u have a lot of money. at least the yankees chase guys who are worth that kind of dough.

escobar has a good deal of potential but hasnt produced. if they tap that potential he could look like a bargain but that is unlikely, they prolly over spent but we wont know until next season.

well really none of them r worth that kind of dough but yea the yanks get the best value in most cases. and trust me no1 is as bad as the mets, mo vaughn is returning next season. and now they r talking about getting troy glaus, signing tejada, and trading their best prospects for arod. that is stupid. they need to focus on rebuilding and wut r they gonna do with two short stops in the nl. well atleast they dont have steve phillips.escobar has a good deal of potential but hasnt produced. if they tap that potential he could look like a bargain but that is unlikely, they prolly over spent but we wont know until next season.

I think the Angels are hoping that Escobar can be the next Loaiza... That's just my opinion, but he's not worth the dough.

the signing is official. while we're at it, what do guys think about the trade talks around curt schilling. epstein is meeting with him and the tentative deal would have schilling traded for casey fossum and three minor leaguers

u may be right. i heard that schilling would be traded to boston for fossum and minor leaguers. then arizona would trade the minor leaguers for sexson. same thing except it said arizona gets fossum

i heard that schilling said that he will only go to the yanks or the phillies and he has veto power and may veto the trade until 72 hours after the deal has been made. personally i hope he vetos it but i dont want him on the yanks either. he wuz injured for most of the year and is getting up there and may be losing his stuff. the yanks need good young veteran pitchers (late 20s to early 30s) not 40 year olds, the last thing they need is to get a guy who maybe can pitch great one year and then be stuck with a huge contract on a deteriorating player that is impossible to move. i also heard that they arizona gm wants soriano and nick johnson in return for schilling and that would be stupid trade for the yanks.

schilling may veto it. Red Sox selling future for a year or two to try to take down the yankees. might not be such a bad move.

Is anyone convinced Casey Fossum will turn into anything more than a servicable starter? I'm certainly not. He's shown some good stuff, but he's already 25, and his weight really seems like it could become an issue. Besides which, the Red Sox aren't exactly set up to compete down the road: their window is right now, and this move could well put them over the top. I think if Schilling accepts the trade it has to be considered a major coup for the Sox.

i dont want the sox to get him on the chance that he is gonna be dominant but i dont want the yanks to get him cuz the last thing they need is an old pitcher whose skills are deteriorating unless arizona would take jeff weaver. i think that schilling should go back to philly.Pages: 1
