5 DPs in one Game!

Washington Politicians' pitchers are helped out of jams by FIVE double plays by their infielders! Way to go!:D

It seems to me that there are too many double plays occuring overall. Just a cursory glance shows about 2 per game per team. This should probably be scaled back a bit.

More DPs

Well, I don't have access to the Major League stats (or least don't know a site to get them) to know what is normal, but I seem to recall an Oakland A's game where they turned 7 DPs. (Or maybe six, but almost every inning ended in a double play and it was cool because I was always on the edge of my seat, both in this game and that game. I don't think I ever bit my nails to the knuckle before that.) I think Tim Hudson was pitching. He seems to have an uncanny ability to get out of jams.

Double Plays? Did someone say Double Plays?

I got stats on double plays... of course I have stats on double plays. My St. Louis Browns in the Willie Mays League grounded into 173 of em the 1951 season, 200 of em in 1950.

This was scaled back once I think. It needs to be done again. Here's some records:
Most in a season: Boston in 1990 with 174 in the AL. In the NL it's St. Louis in 1958 with 166.
Fewest in a season is 75 in 1945 in the NL, AL is 79 in 1967.
Most by one team in a game is NL 7 San Fran vs Houston. AL is 6 done 8 times from 1948 to 1990.
Most by both teams is 9 for the AL, Boston hit into 6 in 1966 and 1990 while getting Minn and Cali 3 times. NL is 8, again with Boston hitting into 5 and getting 3 times in 1928.
The average number of double plays a team hits into in a season is 120

What is even more disturbing here, if you look into it rather deeply (I've mapped all my games) the faster runners are getting doubled up more than my slower runners are. Also, I've yet to see an error on a double play attempt, which is far more likely when trying to double up a speedy runner, but I've not seen one on a slow runner either.

DPs

Using the statistic tysok has provided (avg team hits into 120 DPs per season), the avg game should have 1.48 DPs in it. But according to Bob (avg 2 DPs per team per game) that would come out to 4 DPs per game. If this is true, there is a large discrepancy, and it probably shopuld be addressed.

I also agree with tysok in that there should be a difference in faster runners and slower runners getting doubled up on.

I don't know, maybe I'm too hardcore a fan, and this is getting too much into the game, but I think these would be good ideas.
