New League/league rules

December 11, 2003 at 11:01PM View BBCode

I have asked Tyson if i can wait until after Christmas(jan. 4) to start my league, since i will be out of town between now and then, and holidays are hectic for everyone.

If I can have Chicago NL, and the rules aren't too outlandish, i'm in!
But the team isn't so important, it's just a preference.:)

The league rules will be open to sugestions by the owner in the league, so don't think these rules are rock solid, only the basic ideas behind them are.

League Rule

Schedule of Games:
We will play either 12 or 15 games a day. We will take a vote and decide by a majority how many games we want to play every day.

Major League Roster:
Teams must carry at least 2 catcher on the major league roster. A catcher is defined as anyone with catching as his natural position, or a rating of C or better at catcher as a secondary rating. You can only have a catcher play catcher, as the penalty for playing a guy out of position at catcher isnâ??t that bad. The only exception to this rule is if you want to train another player to play catcher. If you want to do that then you may put a guy who plays any position at catcher, but he must play there the entire season. He also must be under the age of 23 when the season starts. This doesnâ??t exempt you from having to carrying 2 catchers on your roster; it just allows you to train a new catcher.

Off Season:

Rule V Draft:
At the end of the season each team will select 5-7 players they want to protect who are on their minor league and major league roster combined. Players are not eligible to be picked if they have at least 200 at bats or 40 innings pitched for RP and 100 innings pitched for SP by the 150th game of the season, and therefore do not need to be protected (this eliminates people sending all their prospects to the major league level right before the end of the season) The protected players will need to be posted in the topic titled Rule V Draft, before the 150th game of the season. The draft order will be a random selection of non-playoff teams. Following the non playoff teams in the draft order will be the playoff team with the worst record of all the playoff teams, then the 2nd worst playoff team record, Then 3rd worst playoff team record, and finally the team with the best record in the league. If one of your players from your minor league squad is taken, No other players can be taken from your minor league squad. Also before the begging of the World Series you can post in the topic titled Rule V draft and say that you will not be selecting anyone in the draft, if you do this, then no minor leaguers can be taken from your squad in the draft. I will be conducting the draft. Everyone who is picking a player will send me a u2u with a list of 16+ players on it (if by chance you are left with no one on your list by the time it is your turn, you will not get a player, and you will be skipped) ordered by most desired to least desired. I will then select the top player left on each list as I go through the draft order. This way it will be done within the off-season timeline we have.

Player Names:
Each team must rename their players with names from the team you control. For example Cincinnati can only use names of players who played for Cincinnati. Also so that we incorporate more names, each team will be allowed to select 1 other team that is not part of the league (like Seattle Mariners, Toronto Blue Jays) and use players from that team. The only teams that will not be able to select another team will be the Yankees and the Cubs,(due to their not being 32 team in MLB) since both of those teams have been around for a very long time and have more players to choose from. Also once a player retires his named may be re-used by the team whom his name belongs. A players name may not be changed after he is renamed. Duplicate names will be resolved with the team who he spent the majority (at-bats or innings pitched) of his career getting the rights to that name.

Waiver Wire:
You are allowed only 1 waiver wire pickup per real time day for the 1st 5 real time days following the Amateur draft. After those first 5 days are up, it is a free for all, until it comes to the playoffs. There is to be no waiver wire deals during the playoffs or amateur draft. The waiver wire starts up on the 1st day of the regular season.

Trading:
There is a trade deadline of August 31(simtime). This doesnâ??t mean no trading can go on after this date, it just means that no players acquired may be on your playoff roster. Draft pick trading is allowed, and same with cp point trading. You must post the draft picks under the topic Draft Picks. Also there is no trading during the playoffs, but you may negotiate with other teams during this time, but you have to accept the deal after the WS is finished.

Unfair Trades:
If you think a trade is unfair, u2u me. If I get 3 u2uâ??s about it, then I will send a message to owners involved in the trade, and ask them to explain themselves to the league. Then the trade will go to a vote in front of the league. It requires 8 votes to be vetoed.

Playoff and Injuries:
During the playoffs if your pitcher gets injured, he is allowed to be sent to the minors for the duration of the injury, and another pitcher may be called up. When you want to bring the pitcher who was injured back up to the majors, you must send back down the person who was called up in the 1st place to replace him. You may not send down a injured hitter under any circumstances.

Lost owners:
If an owner is gone for more than 1 week with out first notifying me, then his team will be given to another owner. Yes I know it is your own money, but for the good of the league this rule is in place. It isnâ??t that hard to notify me, all you have to do is send me a u2u saying, I will be out of town for the next weekâ?? only 10 words.

Initial Draft:
We will have our initial draft, then we will be dropping our first 10-15 picks(we will vote on how many). Then we will have a live draft for these picks in the same order in which the 1st draft went, and instead of going to pick 16 then it being the 1st guys pick again, we will be doing a snake draft order (if you need to know what that is, just ask). This makes the draft fairer. We will vote on a time. If you canâ??t make the draft, we will make sure there is at least a day between the initial draft, and the live draft. During this time I will expect to get a list of players ranked from top choice to last choice(the list might be 160 to 240 players long depending on how many players we drop). I will use this to draft for any absent owners, by picking their top available pick. If you do not get me a list, I will pick the top ranked person regardless of age, and I will draft a hitter in the odd rounds and a pitcher in the even rounds for all people who donâ??t submit a list to me. After we go through 2 rounds, we will go and claim our players off the waiver wire, then do the next 2 rounds and go and claim our players off the waiver wire, this will continue through all the rounds we draft. This way you can see what players are available.

Tanking:
In order to prevent tanking the person with the most wins in the regular season will get a free custom league team for 10 months, and the person with 2nd most wins will get a free dynasty league season. This will require everyone adding in an extra 3 dollars to their entry free, so this league will cost 43 dollars. Three dollars extra wonâ??t break the bank, and it will also add to the competitiveness of the league, and try to limit the tanking.

Minor Leagues:
You may have no more than 20 minor leaguers on your minor league roster. This allows more talent on the waiver wire, and also not many people have more than 20 anyways because anything over 15 lowers improvement chances. You will need to have your minor league roster down to 20 by the 10th game of the season.

Waiver Wire Players:
Any player 26 and older who is claimed off the waiver wire must be kept on the major league roster permanently, unless released or injured. If he is injured he may be sent to the minors, but he must be recalled as soon as his injury is over. This limits teams storing extra talent on their minor league rosters, and allows teams who might need these players in the majors to acquire them.

Violation of Rules:
You get one 2 warnings for the 10 months, after the 2 warnings, subsequent violation will result in a 10 game suspension(benching) of your best hitter(determined by player ranking page). 10 games is the penalty for your 3rd violation, each violation after the 3rd increases the suspension by 10 games(your 4th violation=20 game suspension, 5th violation=30 games, 6th violation=40 games, etc.) Also if you violate the waiver wire rules or trading during the playoff rules or regular season, you will be forced to undo the transaction and will not be allowed to acquire the player(s) for 1 full season and you will suffer the corresponding punishment.

i have no plans to join the league but i have some questiions/comments nonetheless. when renaming, i assume the manager of washington could use washington, texas, and team X. in other words, texas would not count as team X, correct? i could see this causing a little confusion but i doubt it would cause any major problems. it's mostly me ranting. also, i like ur suspension rule

December 12, 2003 at 01:26AM View BBCode

i don't know how i am going to work that. I think i will do it so that you can use teams that your franchise was before the 50's but after the 50's the franchises don't carry over, so if you wanted to be washington and use texas names, texas would be your 2nd team

washington should end up getting washington, texas, and minnesota, maybe montreal too next year.

December 12, 2003 at 02:31AM View BBCode

well that isn't going to happen, washingon gets washington and all the franchises that preceded it ,nothing else, Matter Closed!

I love being commish:D

I would love to join the league. Can I pay the current price instead of the new price for next year? I saw you said $43. If that's correct, I will PAYPAL the payment.

15 Games per day?? How do you have time to change players that are tired?? not everyone lives by a puter board..not being an ass...just curious:puzzled:

December 12, 2003 at 03:45PM View BBCode

The Jackie Robinson league plays 15 games per day, and you really don't have time to swap players in and out when they are tired. You just set your lineup and rely on ABE to make the substitutions when necessary. It puts you in more of a general manager mode and places a premium on your bench players. There are advantages and disadvantages to a faster rate of play. It's certainly not for everyone -- it just depends on what you enjoy.

See, I think I want to sample a slower 3 game a day pace in a dynasty league first, that's what I'm looking for. Are there any leagues like that needing a new owner?
Better still, a new league like that starting up after this season is over?

There will be new dynasty leagues starting in January when the current seasons end.

Excellent!
Then I'll probably wait until those start up and get in on one or two, plus I'm trying to take over a team in a 15 game/day league right now, so my plate should be full.:)

I agree. I'm more interested in a 3-5 game/day League. 15/day is just too much, IMHO. Too much depends on ABE for the outcome.
If there are any openings in a private league that plays 3-5 games/day..let me know , please
Jeff78

December 12, 2003 at 06:51PM View BBCode

I think the least games any private league plays is 9 per day. Not sure about that, so anyone correct me if I'm wrong. Res, you sound like a dynasty would be perfect for your expectations. There are games around 9, 12:30, and 5 in dynasty leagues.

i play in the Satchel Paige league and that is 15 a day. ABE switches your players for you when they get really tired. 15 might be a little mnuch but a 9 or 12 game is not a hassle. even 15 isnt too bad if you can spend enough time with your team.

so if washigton gets the franchises preceeding it, baltimore should get the st. louis browns and milwalkee brewers, but doesn't get itself, since the yankees were preceeded by baltimore orioles?

ME: give me a break, yeah their are some flaws, but i am working through them. They won't apply to you becasue as far i know all you do is play single season leagues

arodtoo, there are many franchises older than the Yankees. You need to refine what teams get multiple teams to choose names from.

For example, all of these franchises date back to before the Yankees, who began in 1901 as the Baltimore Orioles, as ME posted:

Braves 1876
Cubs 1876
Dodgers 1884
Phillies 1883
Pirates 1882
Cardinals 1882
Giants 1883
Indians/White Sox/Red Sox/Orioles/Yankees/Tigers/Twins/A's-1901

That leaves
Padres
Blue Jays
Rangers
Devil Rays
Mariners
Mets
Expos
Brewers
Royals
Astros
Marlins
Rockies
Angels
Diamondbacks
who all started in 1961 or later.

If you stick with using real names the multiple teams should come from the newer teams, after all, Those cities aren't in SimDynasty.

also in my league their will be a limit on draft pick trading, tht way you don't end up with the huge mess we have in the yogi berra league. I don't know how i will limit it, i am thinking maybe no trading draft picks from more than 1 or 2 years in advance.
sycophantman

December 13, 2003 at 07:53PM View BBCode

I think having a limit on draft picks two years away only would solve the problem for the most part.
How and when will we be making claims on cities for the teams?
I've made no secret about coveting Chicago NL or AL, but either way it works out will be good for me. But it would be nice to know what team names I need to look into, do a little research, you know?:)

well i don't have a league right now, i will be going through the process of submitting an application after christmas, probably around the 4th of january. I am said to be one of the front runners, but who knows. I might just randomly assign people to 2 teams, by pulling team names out of a hat.

It's almost Jan 4. I would like to take NY in American league, if a league is starting at all.
