Week 16 picks! Get 'em while they're hot!

December 19, 2003 at 03:50PM View BBCode

Here we go...
hopefully I can expel the shame my picks this year has caused me and my ancestors.:(
My record to this point is 102-122, so a 500 record seems a little much to ask, but it's possible!
So that is my goal, redemption!

Week 16
(all winners are in [color=Red]red[/color], so you know...)
saturday games
[color=Red]Atlanta[/color] at Tampa Bay:o
-Vick was swept by TB last year, and this looks like a perfect revenge game, ending Tampas slim playoff hopes.
Kansas City at [color=Red]Minnesota[/color]:o
-This pick is all about emotion. The emotion that the home team Viks will definitely be playing with. Every sensible person will think that Minnesota has no shot with its 25th ranked D, but with the NFL the way it is, you gotta find some upsets every week, and I feel this one, as well as...
New England at [color=Red]NY Jets[/color]:o
-Everybody in my pool has been constantly picking against New England thinking that a team doing that well without a running game has to lose eventually. I'm no exception, and this is the week that it finally happens. If ever a team playing above its own talents comes crashing to earth, its against a home division rival.
sunday games
Washington at [color=Red]Chicago[/color]
-Rex Grossman did well last week, not great. It's the rookie class that won that game for Chicago. Especially that late game choke by Randy Moss. When a rookie corner can just yank out of your hands the catch that in all probability would have won you the game, you're gonna take a hit. Washington continues to tailspin against a newly confident Bears team that has won 3 of the last 4.
Miami at [color=Red]Buffalo[/color]
-Yeah, yeah, I know its cold and Miami is playing. But that is only part of why the Dolphins are going to lose this week. Buffalo has done poorly this year (they were my preseason super bowl pick...) but their defense is coming into its own. After the crushing defeat last week, the Dolphins are lost. After Wannestet's 'take me out of the equation' speech after the monday night collapse, the team and owners are fixated on just that after the season.
[color=Red]NY Giants[/color] at Dallas:o
-Another upset game? Yes! But a 10 and a half line? WAY to high against a Giants team looking for revenge against a Cowboys team that started the season long tailspin. Most of the team likes Fassell, and want him to go out on a good note. I see Giants BIG over Dallas, just a hunch...
[color=Red]Tennessee[/color] at Houston
-I love the fact that O'Donnell is coming back in to help out what looks to be a good pick for the super bowl to this point. Nobody is saying whether McNair will play this week, but smart money says he plays through the pain. David Carr has been off for four straight weeks and will have to readjust to starting. An easy pick...
[color=Red]Baltimore[/color] at Cleveland
-All signs are pointing to the Ravens this week. After a loss to Oakland last week they'll be more fired up than usual. The Browns will still have the sting of Lewis' 295 yards on their minds the last time they met. Figure they will overcompensate and open the door to another huge game for QB Wright. Baltimore can smell playoffs and won't back down now, their coaching is too good for that.
Cincinnati at [color=Red]St Louis[/color]
-It pains me to make this pick, for I am with most of America in pulling for the Bengals this year. But I just don't see this Bengal team overcoming an at home team like the Rams. It will be a high scoring affair, but the Cincinnati 27th ranked defense will keep them just short of playoffs...
Detroit at [color=Red]Carolina[/color]
-The question here is if the Lions will match the Tigers and just barely avoid infamy. Doesn't look like its in the cards though. The Panthers are salivating for this game, desperate to stop their skid. The Lions will lose their 24th road game in a row this week, breaking the old record for road futility set by the 81-84 Oilers. Way to go Detroit! Having a great year for sports.
New Orleans at [color=Red]Jacksonville[/color]
-Here's betting that sometime during this demolition by the Jaguars, hungry for respect, that we see a Jag on camera talking in a cell phone, probably around the 21-0 mark. Way to distract a team going for a playoff spot, Joe Horn. You're right, it really IS all about you...
San Francisco at [color=Red]Philadelphia[/color]
-So I may have been wrong in thinking that Garcia would self-destruct once he got put back in. 6 TD to no intercepts isn't exactly a bad run. But lo! Here come the big bad Eagles to make my predictions finally come true. My rock in a season of chaos, how can I continue to bet against them? No more, I'm now officially on the bandwagon. Go Eagles!
Arizona at [color=Red]Seattle[/color]
-There are few guarantees in life, but notice how I said 'few'. Here's the Cardinals looking to make their road record a perfect 0-8 against a Seattle team that only seems to be good when they're at home. Need more? Away from Sun Devil Stadium, the Cards have lost by 18, 24, 17, 13, 38, 25 and 36 points.
Need more still? It's the cardinals, case closed.
San Diego at [color=Red]Pittsburgh[/color]
-This is the dog game of the week, my condolences to the Pittsburgh NFL fans who are forced to watch this over a much better SF/PHI game, unless you have directTV, (get it, NOW!!) Me, I won't really care either way, just can't muster enough interest in this. I'd watch the Westminster over this, I'd watch golf over this...
[color=Red]Denver[/color] at Indianapolis
-Very tenetive bet here, seeing as how no one knows whether Portis plays or not. Portis is pivotal to the Broncos success so we will have to wait to see. But my guess is that he doesn't miss a game as important as this one. Figure he's a lock to get his seventh straight 100 yard game. The fourth ranked D takes care of the rest.
MNF game
[color=Red]Green Bay[/color] at Oakland
-Got to hope MNF gets to have two games to choose from every monday next year. If they had another game to show, it probably wouldn't be this one. Best stat to consider here. In the last four games of the season, dating back to 2000, the Pack are 12-2. Favre is always up for games at the end of the season, and should have an easy time of it against the floundering Raiders.

There you go, my picks of the week!
Bask in the glow!!!

Week 16

Saturday games
Atlanta at [color=red]Tampa Bay[/color]
-Vick hurt his leg last week and Tampa will hurt him again.
[color=red]Kansas City[/color] at Minnesota
-This game will approach 100 points total. The O/U is 54, and that's not high enough. Will be a seesaw game, but Minny sucks lately and KC wants home field.
[color=red]New England[/color] at NY Jets
-I've been saying for 4 weeks now that this is the game the Pats will lose, but since suco picked it, I'm going against him just for the hell of it. Plus, it's New England, this team doesn't know how to lose.
Sunday games
Washington at [color=red]Chicago[/color]
-Chicago isn't all that bad, especially at home, and Washington is awful. I called the firing of Fassell last week and I'm going to do it again this week, if and when Wash loses, Spurrier better be looking for a new home.
[color=red]Miami[/color] at Buffalo
-Miami always plays Buffalo well and with their playoff hopes on the line, they hold nothing back. Fiedler will come out firing and Buffalo won't be able to match the fire power.
NY Giants at [color=red]Dallas[/color]
-I hate Dallas, but the Giants are terrible. And what exactly is Fassel's motivation? He already got fired, he doesn't care anymore. Watch for a couple serious trick plays from the Giants this week, but they'll still lose.
[color=red]Tennessee[/color] at Houston
-No McNair? No problem. Tennessee rolls.
[color=red]Baltimore[/color] at Cleveland
-Another 295? Don't bet on it. Baltimore will find a way to win in the Dawg Pound, or will they? Close game, but take the Ravens.
Cincinnati at [color=red]St Louis[/color]
-St. Louis doesn't lose at home, simple as that.
Detroit at [color=red]Carolina[/color]
-Carolina is terrible in December, but Detroit is terrible all the time. Here's to a new NFL record.
[color=red]New Orleans[/color] at Jacksonville
-No cell phone celebrations this week, but New Orleans thrashes Jax.
San Francisco at [color=red]Philadelphia[/color]
-The 2nd hottest team in the NFL continues to roll. San Fran doesn't know how to win on the road either and PHI will take advantage of it.
Arizona at [color=red]Seattle[/color]
-Seattle only knows how to play at home, and Arizona doesn't know how to play anywhere. Seattle by 21 points.
[color=red]San Diego[/color] at Pittsburgh
-SD has a lot of talent, but can't figure out how to use it. This week though, they do. For the record, Cowher is next to go.
Denver at [color=red]Indianapolis[/color]
-Great game going on here. Without Portis, Denver won't keep it that close, but with Portis, game will come down to the wire. Unlike the New England game, Indy will punch it in at the end of this game.
MNF game
[color=red]Green Bay[/color] at Oakland
-Even with Favre hurt, he'll still light up Oakland. Actually, it's gonna be Ahman Green that's going to have a huge day. Oakland sucks and got outplayed big time last week, they lucked out with turnovers and it won't happen this week.

I can see 16-0...

Baltimore at Cleveland
I think Cleveland is going to win this week - or at least cover the spread if they are dogs. They have a few things going for them:

1) They are still angry/pissed about the first game where Jamal Lewis embarassed them and look to this as a revenge game to keep the Modells out of the playoffs. There is some bad blood between these teams.

2) Lots of talk of the history of the franchise this week with the death of Otto Graham - maybe this will inspire some of the guys.

3) Home field advantage for Cleveland against the Modells - the fans will come out in full force on Sunday.

I think that the Baltimore at Cleveland game will be closer than the records indicate, but I still favor the Ravens.
Geez, me and DeVeau picked 8 different games.
And i'll have you know that one other player has a worse overall record than I, so your 'suco' comment is unwarranted!

Is McNair playing this weekend? I need to know for my fantasy football championship (he is my QB).

Atlanta @ Tampa Bay- Tampa Owns Vick and John Gruden will find a way to beat the falcons terrible defense.

Kansas City @ Minnesota- Both teams are horrible against the run, and the Chiefs have an amazing run blocking O-Line so i take Kansas City.

New England @ New York Jets- New York Jets DE's will fluster Brady and make him throw some bad passes.

Cincinnati @ St. Louis- Torry Holt is going to have a great game, but at the same time i think it will be a low-scoring game.

Detroit @ Carolina- Carolina's D is too good and will win the game for them.

New Orleans @ Jacksonville- To me Jacksonville's defense is good enough to pull of the upset.

Tennessee @ Houston- Houston has came close to be beating some real good teams, but i dont think the titans are that good, this will be a low-scoring game.

Miami @ Buffalo- Henry will have a big game going 150+, but the bills defense is what will win it.

Washington @ Chicago- Washinton will pass all over the Bears no matter who their QB is.

Baltimore @ Cleveland- The Browns arent good at stopping much of anything on D, and playing Jamal Lewis is not going to help the Browns.

New York Giants @ Dallas- The cowboys will get a heavy dose of Tiki, and it just seems like another low-scoring game.

San Diego @ Pittsburgh- Both teams cant stop the run, and only one team can pass the ball and that is Pittsburgh, they have more playmakers on offense and will win big.

Arizona @ Seattle- Cardnals= no D, plus Seattle doesnt lose much at home, and i dont see it happening to the worst team in the NFL.

San Francisco @ Philadelphia- High scoring game, with the 49ers on top, look for a big game by Kevin Barlow.

Denver @ Indianapolis- Another High scoring game, even if Portis does not play.

Green Bay @ Oakland- Oakland has a bad offense, terrible defense, and their players are real old, nuff said

Somehow, I'm not too surprised that bills4593 picked Buffalo to win...

well yeah of course they will...we own miami when they are in buffalo and our defense is much better, ricky williams is going to have to average more than 3.5 yards per carry which had last game against us for them to win

Houston over Houston (oops) Tennessee 12-6.

I have no reason to think the Texans will win.....I just want it to be so.

Texans are my second favorite team, besides the Bears, so they're my sentimental pick. I wouldn't be upset if they pulled it off. They are becoming a team to be reckoned with. It makes me excited for the next season. Same with the bears. :)

oh yeah, the DOLPHINS BEAT THE BILLS IN THE COLD. They actaully have done pretty good in Buffalo the past few years. Ray Lucas was the only reason they lost there last year. Too bad the stupid Colts couldn't stop a pair of backup RBs :(

I should have gotten that Jets win, Pennington having 5 interceptions in a game, didn't see that coming...

The end of that New Orleans, Jacksonville game was unreal. I could only imagine how I would have felt if the Bears blew a shot at the playoffs like that!

reminds me of back to the future 2 when biff goes back in time (to 1955) and gives young biff a book of who's going to win every sporting event until the year 2000,and Biff becomes rich because of gambling.
