i think Travis Henry should have made it... he started out the year by doing ok the first 2 games got injured in miami and didnt play the next game and comes back what i think is the best back in the 2nd half of the season, despite him having a cracked fibula and still playing

Hmm...
He's played really well, but that's a hard sell.
I think if anyone desrves to have a chance to make it, it should LaDainian Tomlinson.

henry? nah he doesnt compare to those people. i say the the best out of those is portis. great year he has had.

I'd take tomlinson. rest of his offense sucks, yet he has over 2000 total yards, and is on pace for 100 catches. often receiving yards are overlooked for running backs. this is with 8 in the box because san diego cant throw worth shit to anyone else.

travis henry, 6th best in the AFC at best (tomlinson and ricky williams are better + guys on the list)

tomlinson is only a little better than portis/holmes/lewis. i would take holmes or portis off the list, both have pretty good O-lines in front of them, and their teams have a decent passing game. TDs are an incredibly overrated, i dont factor that in at all.

December 19, 2003 at 10:24PM View BBCode

yeah LT is the best there iis, but not on list, although portis is having a comparable season to tomlinson.

Portis' yard per carry average is ridiculous. They showed a stat during a game earlier this year and for his first two years, he had the best yard per carry average in the history of the NFL.

Their O-Line is the reason IMHO.

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot to mention that out of the top 10 guys on that list - Portis is the only one that wore a helmet and it wasn't made of leather! Nobody has started a career like his in a long time.

Henry is the best running back in the AFC East, and if anyone says Ricky Williams is i will puke, he could be the most over rated player in the nfl

Here it is Henry vs Williams

December 20, 2003 at 12:01AM View BBCode

Ricky Williams- 343 1188 3.5

Travis Henry- 292 1227 4.2

there are only 2 other starting RB's in the league that average less then Ricky, Eddie George and Jerome Bettis, Troy Hambrick averages more than Williams!!! nuff said, this was kind of off topic but i just wanted to point out how good Henry his and too show my hate for Williams and the Dolphins...if anyone were to watch a bills game you would probaly agree with me about how good Henry is, he breaks like 4 tackles a play. if he only had the open field speed....

Ricky Williams, no offensive line, at all, at all. only decent o-lineman (dixon) has been hurt most of the year. 8 in the box just about every play. also no throwing game for games when griese was in.

Indeed, Ricky deserves respect, the o-line is retched in Miami.
Out of the backs on that list, I'd take Priest Holmes. He seems to have all the tools you need. Most importantly, his off-season training is like Clemens'. He'll last a long time in this league (comparitively) and continue to get better, scary...
But you can't go wrong with any of the top 5 backs in the AFC alone! It's a golden age for running backs it seems...

so then u must be assuming the bills offensive line is great?...infact the bills are top 5 in sacks allowed for 2 straight years, but the only good run blocker we have is mike williams

well compared to miami's o-line, buffalo's is like those of the dolphins and browns in the 70's.

Funny as it is, I base much of what I see of the NFL on ESPN highlights... I sleep through most of Sunday recuperating from Friday and Saturday, so I miss a lot of the games, and I wait tables on Monday night.

There are tvs that play the NFL on Monday night, but they're at the bar... I work the non smoking section.

So of the NFL highlights, after that extra special glimpse into my so-called life, Clinton Portis' running game dwarfs everyone else's, by far. Kinda like the way Marvin Harrison is for receivers.

And yes, I am a firm believer that Marvin Harrison is the best receiver in the game right now. Sure, Jerry Rice is still playing, but he's over 40, and he ain't got Joe.

Bills4593 makes quite a passionate argument for Travis Henry.
Dude! I think he's a good back, I wasn't slamming him! I know that Bills fans are supposed to dispise Dolphins and their ilk, but why?
I'm a Bears fan but I consider myself lucky to be able to see Favre do his thing twice a year, I don't hate the guy just because he's a packer.
Where is the love?:puzzled:

The Dolphins are our biggest rivals, that is what everyone else says, because they like slammed us in the 70's and 80's, but i guess the rivalary has died out a bit, if u ask me our biggest rival is the Patriots, i can say so many bad things about them....and about Travis Henry, i just want everyone to know how good he really is

I still remember that game with the Dolphins that you guys had. The one where that one linebacker, can't remember the name, gave the finger to everyone in the crowd. Bryan Cox! That's his name!
That was pretty controversial at the time, he later became a Bear and pissed everyone off here, too.

this is a tough question. my question is is this over their careers or just this season or just recently? if it is career i would have to say curtis martin. if it is just this season i would have to say either jamal lewis or priest holmes. i really cant pick between those two. next on my list would be ladainian tomlinson. he prolly will have 100 catches and over 1,000 rushing yards. thats a great combo. im a jets fan so im supposed to hate all afc east players that arent jets but i agree that ricky williams is a little overrated. i think that travis henry is a good back and did get snubbed alittle, probably not to the point that bills4593 thinks but i saw him play against the jets recently and he tore them up even with a cracked fibula and bruised ribs. but ofcourse they are the jets so i dont know how valid that is.:D

I just meant this year, seeing as how these are the pro bowl backs. I just wanted to get some words about the merit of their selections.

than lewis or holmes. i cant pick between those two.

Bills have Ruben Brown, pro bowler this year, and he's been to many previous pro bowls. Bledsoe can't scramble one bit, that's why he gets a lot of sacks. Good run-blocking o-line.

Dolphins bills used to be big rivals, in early 90s I remember they were the only good teams in the AFC East, when the Bills lost 4 straight super bowls. Then the Bills were bad for a few years (when Thomas, Kelly, and the others from their super bowl run retired). Patriots and Jets got good cause of Parcells. No rivalries in AFC East like NFC East, where its redskins v cowboys and eagles v giants.
sycophantman

December 21, 2003 at 12:47PM View BBCode

Yeah, the NFC east has had the most good rivalries over the last few years, longer even. I remember back in the early 90's when they had 4 teams going to the playoffs from their division, or almost, and this was back when they had 5 teams.
It's all about who's on top, my NFC central hasn't been too compelling when only the Pack have been good. It's too dull then. Give me a Bears vs. Packers game when the division is on the line. Give me a three way tie for the division lead when there's only 2 games left in the season. Then you'll see some good rivalries. But until all the teams are at least competitive you can't consider it as such. No respect for a team that backs into a division title.

umm farfetched, performance wise this year holt and to some extent moss are in a class of their own.

December 22, 2003 at 03:15AM View BBCode

Yes, right below the class in which Harrison resides. A couple of those catches against Tennessee (especially that diving one-hander) couldn't have been made by anyone else. And it wasn't just that game; he's been doing that all season.
