A Suggestion, Don't Kill Me

My apologies for waiting until now to think of this, because I'm not very bright, but it just occurred to me a way to solve the draft situation. This of course is probably VERY difficult to manage, but...
It might be cool if we could draft by position. Say, we could rate each field position by importance to us- and say "draft the best player available at these positions in this order", or something similar... For example, I want a killer lefthanded starter and to be strong up the middle, so I might rate them as follows:
1 LH Starter
2 Catcher
3 Shortstop
4 Centerfielder
5 Closer
6 Second Baseman
7 First Baseman
8 Left Fielder
9 Rightfielder
etc....

May be nearly impossible to implement because of situations like this...
What if you had the choice between a shortstop with a total rating of 70, and a left-handed pitcher with a total rating of 68. Which one would you take first? Would you do the same thing if the left-handed pitcher was ranked at 60?
It may be possible to add weights to this somehow. Like a +/- factor. So you could add points for certain positions. You could add 5 points for just being a shortstop. But this actually would probably hurt your team because all your backups would be shortstops if you were doing "Best Available" strategy.
I have factored in throwing arm in a way. You'll see it on Monday.
