Week 17 picks! A glimpse into the FUTURE!!

December 26, 2003 at 07:51PM View BBCode

Here it is, the final week of the season. It's been an odd year, full of upsets and dubious achievements. So to add to the dubiousness, my final week picks!

(as always, the picks are in hypnotically gorgeous [color=Red]RED[/color])

Week 17
Saturday games
Buffalo at [color=Red]New England[/color]
-How am I going to bet against New England now? Most of the season I have, and after getting burned all season, I think I'll hop on before the cart gets overturned.
[color=Red]Seattle[/color] at San Francisco
-Sure, I know how the Seahawks do on the road, but my gut says they use this game as a chance to get some respect before the playoffs. Assuming they actually win, of course.
[color=Red]Philadelphia[/color] at Washington
-The best sign of good coaching is the bounce back game after a painful loss. Philadelphia has the most underrated coaching in the game, and the troops will be up for this game, not wanting to give Dallas the chance to take the division title.
Sunday games
Chicago at [color=Red]Kansas City[/color]
-The Chiefs can ill afford to lose this game, and Dick Vermeil will be sure to drill that message home. The last winnable game for the Chiefs before going one and out in the playoffs. The Bears have an improving defense but it doesn't have an answer for Priest Holmes. The Chiefs will mask their own Achilles heel by stacking the box against the run, letting the rookie QB make his mistakes.
Dallas at [color=Red]New Orleans[/color]
-Dallas may have a great run defense, but the Saints are just balanced enough on offense to make it even. Dallas have no real running attack will hurt them in the playoffs, and the weakness will start to become glaring here. Saints have a pass defense that will deny Quincy Carter from having many yards through the air.
Cleveland at [color=Red]Cincinnati[/color]
-Cincinnati will be ready for this one, wanting to be able to watch the sunday nighter with a shot at the division. Cleveland has a woeful running game and an offensive line that would make Walter Payton ordinary. Bengals run over the Browns, then the real tension kicks in.
Jacksonville at [color=Red]Atlanta[/color]
-Hard to bet against Vick, he has a way of beating the odds. This won't be an easy win by any means, with the Jags boasting one of the better run defenses in the league. But in a squeaker, i'll go with the Falcons.
[color=Red]Indianapolis[/color] at Houston
-Tough two weeks for Houston, giving up the win to the Titans with their foolish decision to go man-to-man at the end, now here come the Colts. Peyton Manning has a bad taste in his mouth after losing to the Broncos. Nothing short of a perfect game from the Texans will mean a win for Indianapolis.
St Louis at [color=Red]Detroit[/color]
-This is the nature of the modern day NFL, you got to look for the upset every week. I think this one would count. I have no good reason for this pick, cause everything screams Rams in a walk. But my inner prognasticator says otherwise. Here's the feeling that the Lions see a chance to hurt Rams after seeing the Eagles win last night. After losing their shot at the playoffs a few years ago by losing to the Bears on the last week of the season, giving the Rams their shot, the ghosts of Lion seasons past come back to smack the Rams around. This win would make the entire season for the Lions.
[color=Red]NY Jets[/color] at Miami
-The pride of a great quarterback of the future is nothing to be trifled with. After five interceptions last week, Pennington comes out swinging here. My guess is he has 200 yards by the half. Miami is spiritually crushed after missing the playoffs yet again. They are just going through the motions here.
Tampa Bay at [color=Red]Tennessee[/color]
-This is a tough one to call, toughest one of the week in my opinion. The bucs have the pride of super bowl champions to play for, and the Titans are the team that simply will not quit. I grudgingly go with the team with more to play for, but this one will be a dogfight.
[color=Red]Carolina[/color] at NY Giants
-The Giants dissappointed me last week, where I had predicted they would upset the Cowboys, they instead get capsized by the Cowboys, my vote for overrated wonder of the year (a close victory over KC on that one) Alas, the Giants have no heart, and I can only bet on the Panthers whom are going somewhere. The Giants just want to finish the season so they can lick their wounds.
Denver at [color=Red]Green Bay[/color]
-Suddenly, I find it hard to imagine that anyone in the NFC has much of a chance, as long as Favre plays with the fire and focus he showed last monday. I say he carries that emotion over to this game, with a super bowl in mind as the best possible tribute to his father. The broncos cannot help their cause, nor hurt it. They are in the playoffs and their seed is set. The starters will probably rest here. Packers play this game while keeping track of...
[color=Red]Minnesota[/color] at Arizona
-Trust me, if any other opponent, I would pick against the Vikings, they aren't going anywhere near the super bowl with a quarterback who can't avoid big mistakes and a reciever who only plays when he knows it will be easiest. This team is a joke, talent like this should have a better shot, but it'll never be with this particular group. Pity the Vikings fans out there.
Oakland at [color=Red]San Diego[/color]
-its the Bumble Bowl! Does anyone really care to watch this one? I certainly don't, and I suggest that if you want to watch this game that you find a new team to love for a while. Oakland has years of hopelessnesss ahead of them, and San Diego will deal Tomlinson soon as they're able for picks, always draft picks...
Last game of the regular season!!!
[color=Red]Pittsburgh[/color] at Baltimore
-This is always a melancholy game for me, being a Bears fan, it's usually the last game with a team I'm rooting for, oh well... Last week Brett Favre proved that the most important thing to play with is emotion. This game will be wall to wall animosity. There is no love lost between these two. With the Bengals winning earlier, the Steelers will be hungry for the upset. The Ravens will be more focused on Jamal Lewis getting a record than they should be considering, and it will unravel their chances as the Steelers sneak out of town with a smile on their faces.

Can't wait for the playoffs, bring them on!!

oh well, 11-5 isn't a bad way to end the season.
Who predicted the Saints?
And who had the Lions!?

I was rooting for the Packers to make the playoffs. I just didn't really expect it to happen, what a great story.
