NFL PLAYOFFS
December 29, 2003 at 12:34AM View BBCode
They are set.
Week 17 Chokes:
The Bungles lost to the worthless Browns and 3rd string RB Lee Suggs tore them apart, missing any chance at the playoffs.
The Rams lost to the worthless Lions to miss homefiled throughout the playoffs.
The Vikings topped all of that by losing to the even more worthless Cardinals on a last-second hail mary to miss the playoffs.
So here it is:
AFC:
1-Patriots
2-Chiefs
3-Colts
4-Ravens
5-Titans
6-Broncos
NFC
1-Eagles
2-Rams
3-Panthers
4-Packers
5-Seahawks
6-Cowboys
MY PICKS: (Winners in TEAM COLOR)
Wild Card Week:
Cowboys at [color=blue]Panthers[/color]
2 bad QBs, 2 good Ds. It will come down to mistakes by Carter and Delhomme. The difference, the Panthers have a consistant running game while the Cowboys don't. Could go either way, but I'm taking Davis and the Panthers.
Seahawks at [color=green]Packers[/color]
Seahawks have trouble winning on the road, Packers are very hard to beat at home in the playoffs. If not for the fact that Holmgren used to coach the Packers I would give the Seahawks ZERO chance of winning, but with him they have a small chance. Packers hold a big edge with a motivated Favre and a red-hot Ahman Green.
[color=navy]Broncos[/color] at Colts
Manning can't win playoff games, Dungy can't win the big game either. The Broncos ran all over the Colts with a piar of backup RBs. Getting Portis back will only magnify the Colts defensive issues. Denver controls the clock while Manning makes mistakes.
Titans at [color=Purple]Ravens[/color]
This one will be a slugfest. Both taemsw are smashmouth and don't be surprised to see a few guys carted off the field over the coarse of the game. Ravens don't pass well, Titans don't run well. Ravens have the better D. McNair better watch out or Ray Lewis will knock him out. Neither team will score more than 20 points, but the Ravens will come away with a tough win.

The most dangerous team in the playoffs are the Packers right now, with a good running game you can do damage. Looks like the Chiefs and Seahawks have no chance this year.
Wonder if Dick Vermeil will quit on this team too, while sobbing during the press conference, looks like it probably will.
What a nut...:rolleyes:

cowboys will beat panthers. #1 defense in the league. this is the year of the run offense, and a good run defense will destroy in the playoffs. the truth is that the cowboys very good defensive line, and very good linebackers are making up for a not extremely good secondary by blitzing, and not giving the QB enough time for the WRs to get open. panthers will run almost every play and will get eaten up.

on PTI a while ago, Wilburn said that the ravens were the team that had the highest chance to be an upset super bowl winner.
kornheiser said something like "theyve got a Running back named lewis, theve got a Linebacker named lewis, but they dont have a QB named lewis, they wont make the superbowl"

the titans and ravens are teh 2 best teams in the 1st ronud of the playoffs, and match up well against other good teams. whoever wins will beat KC if denver wins and goes to new england. those are the only 2 teams in the AFC with a greater than 1% chance of beating new england.

Nobody seems to have any respect for the Colts this season. I think they will surprise people this year.
But I think the real surprise will be when the Seahawks come to Green Bay and win, yup that's my prediction...

i think the Broncos and the Chiefs can beat the stupid gaytriots. ravens maybe, titans, no way. good running, and run stopping team is needed to beat the patriots, because if it is cold, there wont be much throwing

Happy..., must you player hate?
Why don't you like the Patriots? Not that I'm a fan or anything, but they got a good shot this year, can't deny that...

I hate the Patriots. They are my 32nd favorite team. But they are good. very good run and pass defense (better vs pass though), bad run offense, good throwing offense. Chefs cant beat them (cant stop run or pass), Broncos have a very small chance (can run very well, ok defense), Titans and Ravens have realistic chance. Coats have NO CHANCE, they have bad defense (esp vs pass) and have really good throwing offense and good running offense. But try that in the cold in New England not in a nice dome. Short passes still work when its cold, and that is what the Patriots do.

Here's how I see it going down...
[color=Red]Tennessee[/color] at Baltimore
-Ithink that Tennesse is a much more well rounded team, but it won't be easy in this game. It's going to be very close either way.
[color=Red]Denver[/color] at Indianapolis
-Here I am trying to spread some love for the Colts, and yet I pick against them. Go figure...
The Broncos are red hot, and they have a 10-2 record with Plummer, so they're much better than their record says. If you got a good defense (Broncos, 3rd overall) with a great running back and a good QB, you become the favorite. (I pick the Broncos for the Super Bowl, you read right!, the Super Bowl!!)
Dallas at [color=Red]Carolina[/color]
-It ends here for Dallas. It was all smoke and mirrors for them anyways. Having a young QB playing above himself get to the playoffs usually means disaster, and this is no different.
[color=Red]Seattle[/color] at Green Bay
-I know it makes no sense, I know its a shocker. The Seahawks over the Packers at home? It defies logic, sure, but I just got a feeling about this one. It's too bad if it happens this way, cause I am rooting for Favre all the way. So prove me wrong Brett!

I don't like the Titans, either.
But my dislike stems from the fact that I was a Houston Oiler fan, and Bud Adams moved the team out of Houston like a snake, like a thief in the night. I'd rather burst into flames than see Bud Adams win a championship.:mad:

first round results:
andrew 4-0
Cubsfan13 3-1 (missed Colts)
sycophantman 3-1 (missed Packers)
ME 2-2 (missed Titans and Colts)
my second round predictions:
Panthers at [color=yellow]Rams[/color]
The greatest show on turf gets to be just that. The Panthers have a good D-line and linebackers but a bad secondary which the Rams should be able to support. The Rams have top-notch OTs to stop Peppers and Rucker and keep Bulger off his back. The Panthers will have to run Davis effectively against 8 in the box, which they can do, but if they get behind they are toast with Delhomme against the Rams' pass rush and secondary. Rams are just too good for the Panthers
[color=green]Packers[/color] at Eagles
Both teams used to the cold and frozen ground, so that should not be a factor. Eagles lost Westbrook as RB, who of their 3 RBs was the only one with the speed to take some carries all the way. The Packers offense should be able to run effectively against the Eagles D-line (which is built more for pass rushing) with the Packers very good O-line. Should be a close game, but the Packers will come away with the win.
[color=blue]Colts[/color] at Chiefs
Very high scoring game here, each side should get at least 30 points. Neither defense is good, but the Colts D is better (especially vs the run). A few defensive stops should be all that is needed. Manning proved he can win in the playoffs last week and will light up the Chiefs worthless secondary. Priest Holmes should have a big day too, but it won't be enough to save the Chefs.
Titans at [color=blue]Patriots[/color]
The Titans have a better shot than either the Colts or Chiefs at winning in New England, but they come off a tough game against Baltimore where they got some key players banged up. This game could end up being 9-3 with both teams good defenses dominating the game and neither QB prone to excessive turnovers.
