A Giants fan, a Yankees fan, and a Cubs fan were all in a church praying for their teams. Suddenly God appeared to them in all his majesty and asked them what they really wanted. The Giants fan said "Well, our team is getting old, and we have one of the best ever, and he has no ring, can help us win the world series before bonds retires?" God replied: "yes, the Giants shall win the world series before the one called Bonds is gone". God then asked the Yankees fan, and the Yankees fan replied "we spend more on this game than anyone else. we have the most fans. but we've gone THREE WHOLE SEASONS without winning a world series. can you let us win a few more?" God replied: "yes, the yankees shall continue to win many world series, more in the 21st century than in the 20th." God then asked the Cubs fan. The Cubs fan said "we got close last year, but bad stuff always seems to happen to us. we have a ton of loyal fans, but we havnt won a world series since 1908, and havnt even gotten to one since 1945. can we please, PLEASE win a world series soon?" God replied "ok, the cubs will win a world series, just not in my lifetime"January 03, 2004 at 02:35AM View BBCode

"World Series Champions." I hate that. It's so PC. It's "World Champions," dammit. Maybe I'm totally missing something, but it sounds like people say World "Series" Champions so they don't offend the rest of the world...since obviously it's not a "world" championship (that is, a championship that involves teams from around the world). But if any other country was up where we are with baseball, their players wouldn't be dying to come play in the major leagues. The fact that guys take less money, or RISK DEATH (Cuban players) to play here indictates to me that all these other leagues are minor leagues. So I say if you win it all in the USA, you're the champion of the world...not just the World Series.January 03, 2004 at 03:23AM View BBCode
i dont like pc, but i use world series champions and world champions interchangably. for football i usually use world champions instead of super bowl champions. same with basketball.January 03, 2004 at 03:30AM View BBCode
Basketball might have to call it the World Finals the way things are going. Has anyone else heard the talk about the long-term plans of the NBA? They're talking about making it a world league, with teams all over the globe, in their own division to compete with our original league. I hope so, it sounds so unbelievably cool!!January 03, 2004 at 03:34AM View BBCode
the travel is what makes putting teams outside of north america a problem. until we get faster planes (and it doesnt look like soon, concord is discontinued), or some other way, we will have 20 hour flights and all that, which gives a huge home team advantage. they could allieviate it with more days off and less games between divisions (european/american divisions), but it would still remain a big issue.January 03, 2004 at 06:02AM View BBCode
Gotta love the title "World Champions". Note how I put it on my signature.January 03, 2004 at 05:45PM View BBCode
with all the foreign players coming to the nba i think making it a world wide league would be great. that is if they can figure out travel.Pages: 1
