Wow...that was a high scoring game. How were your stamina ratings for your pitchers after that?

I've been trying to figure this game out. It doesn't appear as though any team has a dominant pitching staff. I've been able to find a balance with my pitching staff but I think it is tenuous at best.

you are right; in this league hitting is very dominant. suggestions for you: pay attention to ratings over stats. Paschall is a better pitcher than both Kiley and Johnson, he probably just has had some bad luck. also you should know (i'm infering that you're new to this game) that control is better than velocity for pitchers, and that power generally beats contact for hitters.

just curious, but what were your ratings for the draft???

This is the first time I've been on SimDynasty. I kinda like it so far. Thanks for the advice.

When I signed up I couldn't figure out anything as far as the draft went. I never actually rated anything. I believe I picked up this team as a "dead team" (no manager). I actually missed the first group of games as I didn't realize the draft had taken place.

How important is a players age?

yeah, you probably signed up for a replacement team. if you go to the free league signup, and choose draft team, you will be put in a new league and you will have the chance to draft your own team. your league will miss the first 60 or so games of the season, though, because all single season leagues have the same date, and we are already in june.

in single season leagues (free leagues like this), age is not important. age is used to calculate what percentage of improvement chances a player will convert, but this doesn't really matter in a single season league.

i believe that they are changing the nature of free leagues here, so that the free leagues will run three seasons before dissolving instead of just one. then age will be important, generally the younger the better

you clearly have been involved with this a long time. Your team is dominating your division. My hope is that I come out of this with a winning record and hopefully a chance to play in the playoffs.

Is that so? I think that would make the game much more interesting. It would make age more important. Age is still a factor in single season leagues. With pitchers it is most important, because you have more flexibility on your staff if you start out with many pitchers you can send up and down.

After reading this conversation about pitching, I would add that pitchers with mediocre control and good velocity can be very good relief pitchers, especially if they have a starters endurance. A pitcher with C- control and B+ velocity can often be an outstanding closer and trading for this type of pitcher is often not difficult.

you can see the details concerning the free league changes in the latest news forum.

i agree that low control pitchers can perform well as relievers, but i think that its largely a matter of luck that they sometimes do. relievers are more subject to performance fluctuations do to luck than starters are
