Generating Offense....

January 31, 2009 at 02:15AM View BBCode

My team is one game under .500 right now, which makes sense considering we have the lowest ERA in the league but we are also dead last in runs scored. For whatever reason, we just cannot hit, especially in the clutch. It has been so ungodly frustrating.

My lineup on paper is better than the measly 182 runs scored so far this year. Also, my bullpen is good on paper, but they surrender crucial 1 run leads but that doesn't hurt the ERA too much(with one exception.)

I think part of the problem is that only 4 of my players have speed rankings of (B) or better, and that means that it is taking 2 or 3 hits to score a guy from first. It seems like even if a guy gets a clutch hit with a runner on 2nd, 75% of the time, he still won't score. I usually draft with more of a focus on speed and defense, but I went for more pure contact and power this season, which ironically, backfired.

Anyway, my lineup, on paper, is too good to be as completely stagnant as it has been. We can't score against even marginal pitchers. Most of my hitters are having individually decent seasons, but we're not "putting it together". To me, however, it seems like everything evens out by the end, so hopefully my boys pick it up for the remaining 70% of the way.

:D:D

Just thought I'd do a post and liven up the message board.

Hey Czech, sorry to hear that you are struggling a bit. I know you are a good manager and will turn it around. Well,I am currently 29-24 and one game out of first. I have a better team than last season but it will still be a long run to the playoffs. I am 2nd in team ERA,4th in runs scored,1st in homeruns and I actually have some guys in the league leaders this season..LOL. I am checking around trying to see how some of the guys from last season are doing. The guy that had the only team worse than mine last season(New York Black Diamonds)is in my league and he leads the AL..so things have improved for both of us. Well,I will be keeping check on ya bro. No one uses the message board in my league so I have time to peruse the other leagues..LOL. Well, take care bro and good luck the rest of the way.

We're only 2 games over .500 but we're one game out of a postseason slot. I'm first in ERA but last in Runs scored. However, we're showing signs of coming out of the offensive doledrums, and the one-run games have been going our way. U still haven't posted a link to ur team.

Sorry u got stuck in Lou Pinella(Sound of me laughing uncontrollably out of pity.) Hopefully ul be back up near the top next year.:yawn::puzzled:

Hey Czech, how its going bro? Anyway,I'm in first by 1 game, our conference seems to be a fairly decent pitching conference and I am 2nd in WHIP and 3rd in ERA. I also lead the league in homers, triples and 4th in overall offense. I just hope I can keep it up..you know how fast things change in these leagues. I have seen monster winning and losing streaks happen. The thing with our conference, everyone is very close talent wise..10 games seperate 1st from last..LOL. The AL in our league has 2-3 real good teams and thats it...already a team is 20+games out. What page do you want me to post as a link? Well, gotta go..see ya later bro. Good luck my friend.

U have to post a link to one of your player pages.

We recently fell to 2nd in the league in ERA but we're pretty much dead last in offense except for steals. We're more towards the middle of the pack in HRs and AVG but the problem has been clutch hitting. If you look at my team, you'll see what I mean. We don't have anyone picking up the slack outside of the core offensive players. So far, this year, pretty much whatever can go wrong will happen. Still, I won't complain, since we're still hanging tough at only 1 game out of 2nd.

I'd rather have an awesome pitching staff and not score many runs than a great offense but a crappy pitching staff. And the offense has picked it up a little lately, and it seems like the cards are starting to fall our way. Every year, it seems like I get off to a slow start but then we pick it up in the 2nd half. I guess that's because some managers lose interest in their team and then their weaknesses become easier to exploit.

The first place team in our N.L., NY, has already jumped out to a 10 game lead, and everyone else is still within 8 games of 2nd place.
