Pitching
This area clearly goes to the Last Five Years its mainly because outside of S. Miller and Essypoo the Nasties don't have much and they are the fourth worst rated team in ERA in the league. They also rank second to last in WHIP, fourth to last in runs allowed and earned runs allowed and hits allowed, and last in walks allowed. Although they are fourth in strikeouts that doesn't make up for their pitching shortfalls. Also Detroit has one the top pitchers in the game in Ben Romano.

Relievers
The Nasties do lead the league in saves but they also lead in blown saves too. Detroit is ranked in the bottom half in saves but in blown saves they are fourth with only eight. Detroit has a solid relief corps with Luis John eating some innings and Mike Sherrill is an excellent setupman. He will turn it over to John Dozier who ranks eighth in the league in saves. The Nasties need Clarence Mejia, Mike Howard, and Trent Moore to not be careless and turn over to the solid setupman Fred Drake. The closer Gail Piersall has underachieved to what his ratings say. If the Nasties are going to win this series the Bullpen will have to step it up.

Offense
Detroit is the most formidable and consistent offensive team in the league no doubt. But New York is the next best offensive team. They have the NL MVP the Esser who's a hit machine. But the Last Five Years can counteract with a more balanced team effort with AL MVP Tom Hall but with two other MVP canidates in Jack Neagle and Clint Smith. Detroit is more balanced offensively than the Nasties and they don't strike out as much. The Nasties hit the most Home Runs but the Last Five Years had the most RBI's, have the best Batting Average and are a threat on the basepaths. This is another area were the Nasties have to be better than Detroit to have a shot to win. Edge: Detroit by a slim margin.
Defense
These are two middling defensive teams both are in the middle of the pack defensively. New York turns the second most double plays while Detroit is down in that catagory and the Nasties catch the most opposing players trying to steal than anyone. Detroit is weak in this catagory. If New York can play some good defense and if they can get Detroit to commit a some errors they have the kind of offense to really make them pay. Edge: New York
Overview
Detroit is probably the more talanted team and is hungry to win the Championship. The Nasties were only in sole possession of first place for the last two games of the season and if Philly hadn't collapsed maybe we would be looking at a different series. New York is probably a little tired due to their 7 game series with the Piemen and the Last Five Years have had some rest. Its going to have to take a lot for the Nasties to win. Their offense, defense, and pitching is going to have to be tops but the X-Factor is their Bullpen if thier Bullpen doesn't perform the Nasties loose. Another key is to take advantage of Detroit's Defensive mistakes and capitalize.

As you know the 1950 Alvin Dark League World Series will be the New York Nasties from the National League and the Detroit Last Five Years from the American League. So who will win you say thats why I'm here to help you out.Pitching
