Mayhem in Milwaukee!!!!

May 25, 2009 at 02:13AM View BBCode

After 24 seasons, Milwaukee has it's first World Series Championship. There are reports of rioting and vandalism inside the city. Fans are jubilantly celebrating after the Musketeers victory. In game 7, Bill Tincup pitched 7-2/3 solid innings and added a RBI single, while limiting KC's attack to three solo homers. Frank Devine came out of the pen to record the save and secure his first ring in 5 tries while sending the home crowd into a frenzy.

It was a series full of interesting events and side notes. Ex-Musketeer Charlie McCabe, released earlier in the year, scored the winning run in game 4, hitting the first of four consecutive singles vs. MIL closer Olmedo Heredia. Jim Paciorek's game 7 heroics almost didn't happen when Milwaukee's manager almost played Fred Gray over him in left field after Pacioerk struggled at the plate all series. He went on to get three hits, score 3 times, hit a triple and a Grand Slam!

The big story, however, was the starting pitching. Milwaukee's 3 Cy Young award winners hoped to outmatch KC's 2 CYA pitchers. However Milwaukee's 2 lefty CYA winners were unable to win a game in their 3 previous matchups vs. KC's magnificent righty duo of Jack Shea and Conover Able. In fact all of Milwaukee's wins before game 7 were by their righties, Devine and Bedgood who each pitched shutouts in the series. Game 7 came down to lefty Bill Tincup vs. future hall of fame lock Conover Able. Tincup has one some big games before, like last season's 1-game playoff with Chicago to get into the NLCS, but no win will ever top this game 7 triumph. Old Bill gave it everything he had to keep KC at bay, even injuring himself in the process. It was a legendary performance and will go down in Milwaukee's sports history as perhaps it most cherished memory. There are reports, although not confirmed, of a bloody sock!

This was my first championship in a multi-season league, and I will always cherish it. I had been 0-for-2 in other tries with different teams of mine. This is my first team and it took 11½ years while never picking better than 4th in the draft to get here.

Thanks for reading!
