Five Burning Questions facing the Mariners

1. Can Erik Bedard stay healthy?
Whether they'll admit it or not, the Mariners clearly missed Bedard last season. When healthy, he's the glue that holds together the rotation. Unfortunately, he's not healthy often, and his prolonged absences make "Return of the King" seem short by comparison. Fortunately, he's making an effort to correct the problem.
"I spent the offseason working with a nutritionist to strengthen my jaw," he said. "But after a few days of that, my hamstring started to bother me, so now I'm just taking it easy and seeing what happens."
2. Can Ken Griffey Jr. remain productive?
Unfortunately for the M's, Griffey isn't getting any younger, and is hoping to squeeze one more productive season out of his knees before calling it a career. At 40 years old, he knows his inevitable eventual decline is the bull in the china shop, but he cautions doubters who think he's too old to contribute:
"After spending the offseason playing shuffleboard with Andy Rooney, I'm in the best shape of my life," he said. "Now, where'd I leave my cane?"
3. Can Ian Snell rebound from a tough 2009?
When Snell is on, he shows flashes of brilliance the team has been hoping for since he burst onto the scene in 2007. Unfortunately, he's never been able to put it all together, and pitching coach Rick Adair will spend the spring working with him to improve his mechanics.
"I think this could be the year he really comes together as a player," coach said. (I took this part out because I couldn't come up with anything good)
4) Is Chone Figgins the answer?
Last season's events and the offseason that followed left the team with an empty spot in third base, and they filled it by acquiring Figgins. Team officials are excited about the on-base skills and clubhouse leadership he'll bring to the team.
"We were really hoping to find a player who guts it out as well as he does," the team official said. "We think he can be the spark that pushes us over the top."
5. Will the team be forced to deal (30)?
(Well, the Felix signing made this moot, and Cliff Lee is pretty adamant about wanting to test free agency. So yeah, i got nothing)

Good call. I know LOTR is an easy target (along with Gone With the Wind, The Godfather and Titanic) but I just went with the first thing in my head.

Also, the only burning questions out of M's spring training are "Who can hope to contain the animal that is Chone Figgins" and something about one of the beat guys having hemorrhoids.

Yeah, pretty much the closest thing the M's have to "burning questions" is:
1. Starting catcher (Rob Johnson or Adam Moore? My guess is that Wak platoons them and this question becomes irrelevant.)
2. 5th starter (Vargas, French, Fister, Olson, Petit, etc. etc. Again, kinda irrelevant once Bedard comes back)
3. Back end of bullpen (whoever loses out on the 5th starter job)
In other words, this is going to be a boring spring for us.

He probably would (well...except Texas, where things went well, as I recall). He fails to recognize his problems with anger and conflict management, and too often blames everyone but himself for his troubles.(Of course, that does not explain nor excuse the behavior of the second city "fans".)

My team is the Cubs. Our spring story is always the same: how many days until our vaulted hopes are dashed.

Cubs fans were upset to begin with, DeRosa (a fan fav) was traded for a bag of balls in order to create dollars to sign Bradley. And than his negative attitude, his blunders on the field, and his struggles at the plate definitely didn't help. I went to 15 games last year, and was very nice to Mr. Bradley whenever I sat in the right field bleachers. The guy can hit, only thing is that he's a bipolar rag that can mess up a clubhouse. Silva sucks, his sinker is just garbage, and he allows way to many homeruns, i would be content in just releasing him and eating up the dough(haha)
I think the last Cubbie I heckled was Mel Rojas. DO you guys remember that fatty.

while fans' disappointment and the resulting boos are acceptable, racial taunts and hate mail are absolutely, and completely, abhorrent.there is no excuse for it, and Cubs fans should speak out vociferously for it to end, once and forever.
