Why did Seattle trade for Russell Branyan, anyone know? Do they think they can get back into the race?

I see two things from this:

1. Jack Z knows they're out of the race, and decided to bring back a player the fans liked last year to make the team at least interesting to watch. People like dingers, after all.

2. The Casey Kotchman experiment is over.

I hope it works out as well for Cleveland as the Eduardo Perez and Ben Broussard trades did.

Please limit your discussion to Seattle sports. I'll gladly refer you to the Cleveland city sports board (which is a lonely and more desolate place than even this).

Thanks,

Ezequiel Carrera isn't exactly the next Shin Soo-Choo.

it seems they (seattle) aren't even too high on those players anymore, right jon? and branyan is working cheap really.

also, if what i read is accurate, they got cleveland on the hook for branyans option. the mariners can just dump him after this season if they don't want him anymore.

those were the two best games i watched all season - so far. i can take exception to cliff lee's after game comments that were something like: ya i felt good it was great to be in a stdium where the fans are baseball fans and know whats going on - they don't need a teleprompter to tell them wha ts happening................................................

yeah, he is pretty much itching and angling to get traded to the yankees. brett gardener and some dopey pitcher, one of those they don't want, and a few more raw prospects. and some money. lots of money.

(the yankees trade for him, no problem. they get him to sign, no sweat.)
