Who would you go get?

June 28, 2010 at 07:23PM View BBCode

Seeing that the Reds are in contention and Jocketty is the GM... chances are good they will go get somebody near the trade deadline. Who do you think they will get? Or try to get?

What would you do?

Would you trade a Homer Bailey, Aroldis Chapman, Johnny Cueto, or Mike Leake.. to get a Cliff Lee or Roy Oswalt?

Discuss...

I would not trade any of these guys for Cliff Lee. It would be a rental for this year, and that would not be worth trading a pitcher that you control for at least 4 years.

How about Yonder Alonzo, Todd Frazier, or Chris Heisey?

I would trade Frazier or Alonso for Lee.

I would think Seattle would want more than one player for Lee. And a Lee for Bailey trade is a total rip for Seattle, even with it being a salary dump.

Apparantly Peter Gammons is reporting that The REDS do what Lee and are willing to give Yonder Alonzo and Travis Wood for him.

If that's the case we (Reds) should do it. Wood is our 6th best young SP/prospect (behind Cueto, Leake, Volquez, Bailey, and Chapman). And while Alonzo is a top 5 overall prospect in Reds system, he's a 1B and we already have a 1B that is a borderline star (in Votto) and he's young.

Wasn't Alonzo drafted as a catcher, or am I confusing him with another dude?

Alonzo was the one we got 2 years ago (at like #7 overall) outta Miami Florida that was one of A-Rod's buddies and was suppossedly one of the best college bats in the draft. I'm not sure he was ever a catcher though I suppose it's possible.

The Reds did in fact draft a Miami catcher this year in round 1.

Yeah, I'm pretty excited about that pick. The Reds haven't had a real catcher since Joe Oliver.

I think we should sit pat....why ruin chemistry. Unless your getting a top notch SS I say we sit tight.

My biggest thing is what are we going do when we come up against some of those really good teams in the playoffs? Suppose we do make the playoffs and we play Philly and they throw Roy Halladay or SF and they throw Cain (or Lincecum)... who are we throwing? Arroyo? Harang? Cueto? Leake? I'm not feeling great about that matchup. Cueto against their #2 or Leake against their #3.. I feel ok about that.

It would feel alot better if we had that HAMMER to throw like Oswalt or Cliff Lee. A 'real' proven type ace for that Game 1.
A major stud that THEY can be afraid of.

I concur with the SS idea. He is not having a great season at the plate...

Over. Lee to Rangers so lets get to what the Reds really need to do............Well nothing except maybe a true closer. Cordero is just terrible.

Cordero is like that A+ velocity/B control pitcher on here that somehow usually does alright as a closer.. but every once in a while gets blitzed.

Volquez will come back soon. That's like trading for a semi-star.

Wood, with the 8 perfect innings, then getting the loss. The boys played great in Philly, and the pen let us down. Was shocked Dusty let Leake pitch the 9th inning. Then Cordero...oh no, we suck again! Not sure if there is a betteroption avaliable, but Cordero is just slightly better than average.

Wood was awesome. Leake was good. Sorry we couldn't win at least one of those games. I'm not concerned though. Phillies are good. And probably better then us especially at full strength. Can you imagine how that might have gone if Utley and Palanco were still in?

Couldn't have gone much worse. A sweep is a sweep. Maybe Joey will be the All Star game MVP, that would be cool.
