New changes for July 12
Just so everyone knows what's coming down the pipeline.
From Tyson:
List of Changes for July 12th
We have the following changes coming in around noon on July 12th. If you have any questions or comments about these changes, please ask in this thread:
http://www.simdynasty.com/oldforum-viewthread.jsp?tid=270081
- Fixed a bug where the closer was not being pulled for effectiveness reasons in certain circumstances.
- The League Leaders page now has the ability to show leaders by team or by league (AL/NL). Note that for players traded in-season before November, 2006 the stats from that season will not count towards the totals.
- We have also updated the format of the dropdowns. The stat dropdowns will use abbreviations in most cases. The year dropdown will have all time and single season at the top.
- In Private and Speed leagues, the commish will now be able to log in as an owner without having his password. Each owner can turn this ability on or off, by default it is turned OFF for all owners. However, if you are inactive for more than 2 weeks, this preference is ignored.
- We have put in a few changes to try to fix the Overlib 4.21 error message that a few people see on occasion.
- When a player is waived, traded, or retires, he will now be removed from the trading block.
- We have enabled Milestones for players again. This feature will look during the offseason to see if any players have achieved 500 HR, 3000 Hits, or 300 Wins during that season. It will then be reported in the news on the date it happened during the season. We had this feature back in January, but the code was inefficient so it needed to be turned off. You may recall the site having a lot of problems on a Saturday in that timeframe. We have corrected these problems.
- We have added a number of features for our Salary League, the Andy Messersmith League. These will be tested by the AML this summer and if all goes well, we will start creating new salary leagues first, then look to create a process to add this rule to existing leagues if there is unanimous support for it. The basic premise is that each team has a salary cap of $80M, and players become Free Agents after a certain timeframe. Bidding is done over the course of 4 days between the draft and the start of the new season. More details to come.
- One of the changes made for the salary league might be beneficial for other leagues. We've added a setting so that leagues can choose to have players go through waivers faster at the beginning of the season. You can set the date players must be waived by and the number of days they need to pass through. If your league might be interested in making this change, have your commish contact us via Support.
- I've created a new page called Draft Summary. This will display all players drafted in a particular year in a sortable table. You can sort by All Star appearances, at bats, innings,
or service time. It is meant to be a tool for evaluating past draft classes and the drafting skill of owners.
- You will be able to download draftees to an excel spreadsheet. This uses a new methodology on the backend for downloading to excel, which will make it easier to add this feature to other pages. If you want this in other places, please post in Suggest Enhancements.
- People can now create password protected Trial leagues. We hope this will be a tool that encourages people to spread the word about Sim Dynasty and invite friends to join.
- No hitters that are not shutouts will now be recognized as no hitters.
- We have made some changes to the backend game module, which should make games run faster. How much faster is tough to predict, could just be a few seconds. We'll have an idea when the first dynasty or trial league games run after this change goes in. If it does improve game times, this should have the side effect of making the site more impervious to slowdowns and outages.
- Added a new page to show Team split stats. You can view every team in the league broken out Home/Away, or vs L/R.
- We added some code to our ad display module that *might* be able to prevent expandable banners on the front end for pay leagues. This way if one of these ads gets by our ad partners, it won't effect your site experience. It was difficult to test for all types of banners, so we aren't sure if it will work.
- For major league position changes, we have made it so the player must appear in the field to have positive or negative impact on position percentages. Currently, there are some instances where a player might appear as a PR or PH late in the game and have it negatively affect his secondary position percentages.
- OBP, and therefore OPS, was being miscalculated throughout the site. We were not including SF in the denominator for OBP. This has been corrected in all areas that use OBP or OPS, including the all star code and retirement code.
- There is now a clear button on the Rotation & Bullpen page to reset all your pitchers to -Select-
- On the trade block, only 3 players per team will be shown on the page with a link to expand. In addition, there is a link to completely hide the trade block.
If you didn't like what we worked on this time around, be sure to have your voice heard by voting for ideas at http://simdynasty.ideascale.com - we try to work on at least 2 of the top 5 ideas every 2 months. This time around, it was the League Leaders by AL/NL and Team Specific All Time Leaders.
