ESPN and the endeavor to devour itself

I don't want to talk about LeBron, which is possibly the most boring thing in the universe. Just read the lede.

Heh.

When Skip Bayless or whoever starts ranting on the narcissism of LeBron dedicating an hour (REMEMBER, THAT HOUR IS HERE ON ESPN, 8PM THURSDAY) to himself? That will be the end of the universe.

You have to admit, "independent sources" is a brilliant euphemism.

"Hey mom, do you know when LeBron is announcing his decision?"
"8:00, on ESPN, that's what the man on TV said."
"Great. That's Broussard with 2 S's, right?"
"You are not my son."

I think that James is donating the money raised from the sale of advertisements during the "Special" to the Boys and Girls Club of America or something. At least, if he has to be a narcissist, he is a philanthropic one.

So LeBron, in his efforts to show how much control he has over...like...everything, has decided that he should get the money from commercials on ESPN (and then subsequently give it to charity, which isnt really the point im making here)?

I hope he goes to Miami so that we can finally stop talking about basketball for the next 6 years, and we can just write them in as champions every year.

It's pretty cool that any athlete has this kind of power. For the last week or so, James has dominated media attention in a way no player ever has, and I am glad to see him using it in a new and novel way. He is already bigger than the owners of whichever team he chooses to sign with - now he is showing himself bigger than their media overlords. Perhaps he'll have the President announce his decision for him.
