Moving to Subscription based Renewals

August 18, 2010 at 12:06AM View BBCode

Hi,
Over time, we have been moving most leagues to the subscription based renewal system, particularly if they had trouble with renewals. The last time around, you guys had 6 teams replaced. If that number was 7, the league would have been folded.

The way it would work is that instead of reupping for 8 months at a time at $60, you would create an automatic subscription that will bill you $7.50 per month. You can cancel this at anytime. This is basically the same price you were paying before.

You also have the option of just pre-paying as many months as you want in advance and then logging in and paying each time manually when your time expires.

Once we get up and running, replacement owners would pay $15 for the first 3 months then $7.50 monthly after that.

There are a few advantages to this system. The first is that once we are up and running, there won't be pause periods where you wait for Expansion owners to signup or the risk that the league will fold due to too few renewers. This is because when someone opts out of the league, the team is posted as a replacement team and the league keeps running. If it takes more than a few days to find someone, the commish can run the team until a replacement can be found. Typically, teams are snatched up quickly. In the event we start seeing a lot of subscription teams lingering for sale, we will implement a system where the price drops every few days until an owner is found.

Also, there is a much lower initial cost for new owners which makes it easier to find replacements. And when you choose to leave the league, you can do so immediately and not wait out the term. This can come in handy if a bad egg joins your league, decides they don't like the league rules or something, and realizing they can't leave, just wants to cause trouble for the next 8 months.

Since you are all renewed for the next 8 months, you'll be setup as valid for the next 8 months. You'll have to setup a subscription at some point before the 8 months is up.

Let me know what you guys think. If there aren't a lot of strong objections, I will get this setup sometime next week.

Ok, I have set you guys up with this. The term was slated to end with the 2034 season. I've set it up so that everyone's subscription valid date is set to May 1st, 2011. This should get you through the 2034 season and maybe into the 2035 season.

At some point before May of next year, please visit Owner->Renewal to setup a subscription or make a one time payment.

Let me know if you have any questions or see any problems.

Thanks,
Tyson
