Multi-Season Enhancement

April 23, 2011 at 06:37PM View BBCode

Ok, this was just an idea of I thought of randomly:

What if, in multi-season football leagues, we had a set amount of money to start with for our franchise. This amount would probably be only slightly higher than the salary cap, but why would it be higher than the salary cap? Well, for my idea, and I don't know if this is the direction we want to go in at all or not, but I think it would be pretty cool if you could spend money on more than just the players on your roster.

Examples
Trainers (bad-average-good): Would reduce number of injuries and/or length of injuries.
Indoor Practice Facility: Increases Improvement Chances during Winter months.
Outdoor Practice Facility: Increases Improvement Chances during Summer/Fall months.
Track: Helps with Speed Training slightly.
Weight Room: Helps with Strength Training slightly.
Coaching Staff: Slight in-game increase in players' execution ratings.
Stadium Seat Additions: More income per game.
And so on..

Each of these would have different prices and different levels that vary in effectiveness, but I think it would add another dimension to an already-great game. It would make some variation in the ways owners played the game, and the draft would no longer define your team completely. This would put a lot more emphasis on developing talent, but if you weren't extremely talented at drafting, it would give you a chance to make a name for yourself in other arenas. This could also possibly lead to home field advantage.

Pros? Cons? Thoughts?
(Keep in mind that I don't even know if this is a direction we want to go in.)

I like it
A team of veteran players might invest in stadium to create more revenue.
A team of young players might invest in coaching/training;
A team of mixed players might invest in scouting.
Teams that are below the cap would have more money to invest.

Sounds like a strong addition to me.

I could even see where bringing in certain coaches might provide boosts in specific areas of the game (i.e., blitzing, passing, line play). The coach might have weaknesses, too, and the higher-paid ones would be stronger all-around.

You could throw a coach category into the draft rank grid easy enough. Just replace the Holder cat or the Kick return cat with a new Coach cat.

I really think we need a Fullback draft category, too.

I suggested this one before, but I'm not so sure about drafting the coaches. I think it would be better to keep coaches separate.

While I think there are a lot of game enhancements needed first, I love this idea.

I would suggest.

1. Off-season training activities OTA´s that would allow you to train in speciific areas
2. Add a mentoring componet to keep a balance to roster age
3. Use the stadium and attendance revenues to fund the enhancements suggested by KLKRTR. (this would penalize teams with bad records by lowering attendance and revenues and discourage tanking)

I think this is a great suggestion and that it is still a long way off down the road. I'll have more thoughts and constructive contributions to the thread later. Good start, I like the ideas.

This would be good even in single season leagues. I would love to be able to pump money into training players instead of just leaving it there.

Would love to know if the Admins think this is something that is possible and/or a direction SD wants to go in.
