QB "Awareness"

From another thread:

"Quote:
The QB will make the decisions based on your Settings, but I notice the higher the Execution rating for the QB, the more likely "he" is to take advantage of the percentages. Meaning, just because your Plan A is to run 40 percent on 1st down, doesn't mean the QB won't pass 100 percent on 1st down if the advantage is there.

As far as I know, this is simply not true in regards to how the sim works. Any evidence to the contrary is merely anecdotal and the consequence of a very limited sample size. "

Hamilton is responding to my opinion on QB and how they play within the game.

It SEEMS like the offenses in the Sim adjust the playcalling, owner settings on offense, to "take advantage." Which was probably the wrong way for me to put it. Owners have percentages for what play will be run on a certain down. Like on 1st down, the offense will End Run 40 percent of the time, Med Pass 30 percent, Long Pass 15 percent and Middle Run 15 percent let's say. This is Plans 1-4 on 1st down.

My question is, what causes the offense to choose any one of those Plans over another? Is it completely random? I was thinking there must be some way for the Sim to determine a plan of attack, based on QB Execution. But if that's wrong, what DOES determine the Plan on a given down, within the Sim?

Execution has nothing to do with which plays are picked--only how well the plays, once called, are executed.

Let's take your example for 1st down:
40 End Run
30 Med Pass
15 Long Pass
15 Middle Run

Currently, I believe the sim will look at that, and it will basically roll a 100-sided die.
40 of the sides are End Run
30 of the sides are Med Pass
..and so on.

So you have a 40% chance of rolling "End Run" on first down. That's all. That answer your question?

One exception: a high execution QB *will* call for screens against the blitz. Otherwise, they do not effect the play calls at all.
