Archie Rosario

At the postgame news conference today, Cubs manager Luis Woods was asked about starter Archie Rosario's impact on the team and what he means to their future.

"We brought Archie here to help us win a championship this year, and hopefully stay competitive the next few years as well. We've made some major moves the past couple of seasons and have pretty much compiled a who's who list of guys from the '57 draft."

When questioned about Rosario's pedestrian performance since coming to Chicago, Woods said "Hey, it takes some time to transition to a new league with hitters you've never faced and playing in stadiums you've never been to before. Plus he tweaked his hamstring on June 13th but it looks to be healing nicely and isn't affecting his performance anymore. He's won 3 of his last 4 starts, so he's got some momentum going and I think he'll fall into his groove very soon."

While his hammy may not be affecting his performance anymore, he still needs to have some run support. The AL is tough on pitchers and he'll need every bit of that Cy Young caliber stuff to be as successful as he want to be.

Rosario's Stat Line through his first 9 starts with the Cubs:
4 wins 4 losses 64 IP 64 hits 17 BB 39 K 1.27 WHIP 4.36 ERA

He must be struggling with the drop in velocity, but with that track record, he should pull it around
