DOH! Wheeler held so much promise when he was drafted #5 overall in 1972. After 2+ seasons he has converted less than one grade in CVR, PVR, CVL, one grade in speed and 9 improves in PVL.
I had projected him going into this season with low 70's in most of his catagories and with some luck, he would be red letter vs R going into his first year in the bigs next year.
Now it looks like he is going to be a bench player when he makes it to the big club, if ever.

how about this piece of crap who i drafted in the 1st round. he only saw 8 major league innings in his career, and they were terrible. interestingly, he finished his career with a total of -29 all-star votes. not sure how that's possible but he managed.

Wheeler has not improved very well, but that's what you get for drafting a 21 year old 5th overall!
He just needs some playing time. He might be one of those guys that hits red overall somewhere at 29-30 and has a good couple years there before declining fast.
Eek, Kelleher. A total of 3 improves from OS20-23? That really sucks.
It's usually always pitchers that I have bad luck with.
I'd call this guy a disappointment. He's had a decent career, but I was hoping for B+/A+

Drafted Joe Raich 10th overall in 1959 as a 19 y/o with a lot of potential. After 4 seasons of good improves in the minors I brought him up to the majors where he improved slightly more than 0. Was up and down over the next couple of seasons and finally got cut in '67 when KC picked him up. He's given them a couple of quality 17 inning seasons so far but he hasn't contributed much to anybody in his career.
Raich is probably on the same curve as Chet Haydel who I drafted 13th overall at RP back in 1950. I liked him because he was 19 at the time and was projected as our closer of the future. Again a couple of very nice improve years in the minors followed by 4 good seasons as closer for us but then his lack of control and improves in the majors caught up to him and he lost it in 1958. Decent career overall but FAR from what I thought he'd turn into. You just never know with this variable development.

ALL-STAR SNUB

Tough luck for Juan Bowcock by not getting an allstar selection. Molesworth obviously deserves the starting RF spot on the squad and with all due respect, I'm not sure how he doesn't beat out either of the other guys that are reserves.
Lerchen
Velazquez
I guess this just proves the rule that it's a health contest. Bowcock still beat out Velazquez in just about every major stat and destroyed Lerchen in all the rate stats. Lerchen's allstar nod is due to his 665 ab's and 99 health, Velazquez i'm stumped on why he beat him out.

Kelleher gets my vote. I had to laugh for that, not laughing at your expense just how bad he sucks!
Those are the two best rookie hitter seasons I've ever seen by Lerchen and Molesworth. Lerchen is 28 so that doesnt count as much, but Molesworth is going to be a bad, bad man in this league for a long time. Bye bye HR record? Starting at OS22 hurts him but I would think 500 HR is a shoo-in for him, 12 seasons for that dude.
As for the Bowcock vs Lerchen vs Velazquez AS race, it's clear in my opinion why Lerchen won out over Bowcock - rate stats don't mean diddly in the equation as far as I know.
Lerchen has 20 more hits, 4 more HR, 7 more RBI, but most importantly he dominated Bowcock in runs - Lerchen had a standout 116 runs while Bowcock only had 79. 24 CS doesn't help Bowcock's case either. That's your winner there, every single time.
I can't say I can explain how Velazquez got 6 more votes than Bowcock though...again, maybe if he didn't have so many CS he walks into the AS game. I can't say its justified though....
Bowcock:
32 HR,
110 RBI, 79 Runs,
166 hits, 28 SB/24 CS, 4 3B, 23 2B,
Velazquez: 21 HR, 97 RBI,
88 runs, 154 hits,
23 SB/6 CS,
8 3B,
28 2B

Yea I understand it all. The health factor was really it. If Bowcock had another 130 ab's it wouldn't have even been a contest. I've always said rate stats should factor in to all selections cause honestly, who wouldn't want .942 OPS over .815 for a season. The CS did hurt him badly though, I agree.
It's really not a big deal, I don't care about the awards that much and all-star snubs just fit in with MLB anyway so it's more realistic I guess.
The SB's were an issue. I still don't know why he ran so much cause I have A- set to moderate and anything under that is don't steal.... All my other settings are the same as every other league I am as well.
