Super rookie on 16 game hitting streak

RF/3B Jack Molesworth has been on an absolute tear tear over the last 16 days, hitting .464 (32/69) with 6 hrs and 20 RBIs, and raising his batting average .277 to .301 in the process.
Having Molesworth produce up to expected levels has been a welcome sight in Oakland, along with an All-Star season from veteran starter Scrappy Stone, in an otherwise disappointing season that has seen, amongst other things, a lackluster season from last season's MVP 2B Joe Bianco, who has inexplicably hit 20 homeruns less this season despite being 28 and injury free the entire year.
My thinking is that ABE just really hates 28 year olds...Bianco's infield mate Pat Byrdak is also 28 and is having a poor season as well (how can you go from +18 to -3 in one year in the field??)
As Oakland has settled into fighting for .500, the top of the A.L is heating up. Despite much bellyaching from the Chicago media, the team has now crept to within 2 games of second, winning 4 straight just as Cleveland has hit a little roadblock. Should be a great finish, while the NL is going to be a race for 1st place.

It is a shame that Sim D does not keep track of rookie records for each division and league or for each team. That would be awesome, then you could compare your rookie to the best rookies of all time or see him set a rookie record like the hitting streak you talked about.

I can't help but wonder...should I have brought up Molesworth at 19? He's only grown 4 points in power vs. R from 19-22, which is disappointing, and I wonder if he would have gotten more if he was up in the majors getting 600 abs?

Almost two full grades in speed that he got in the minors is really important with a guy like that. He also improved 10 in CvR which if you combine the two, he wouldn't have done well with no speed and no contact.
Remember that a guy with red letter power (let alone starting at 91) isn't going to improve on those quickly and he was obviously not a minor league bust. You might have sacrificed some early conversions bringing him up at 19 or 20 unless he ends up being a gem. Over the long haul, maybe not much of a difference but he is much better now having been in the minors for those 3 years than if you would have called him up.
Add in the fact that you were competing and I think you did it right. The only thing I would have done is give him a september callup last season so he could get 10-12 IC's and you could be sure he wasn't a major league bust. I've had a few of those and it hurts when you see a O-65 after your studs first big league season.
I'm not big into the ROY awards (Furhman and others lost their rookie status by getting to many ab's their first callups) but if you are just be sure they don't get 130 ab's or spend 45 days on the ML roster until they play their first full year.

Yeah, I do like that he got a substantial improve in contact vs. R, that was the most important. It is interesting to hear you emphasize the improves in speed as well...it seems like a lot of people consider those improves valueless, but it certainly improves the player as a whole.
I guess I have a soft spot in my heart for this guy - he is by far the best prospect I've ever had in any league (only had the 1st pick once before, and the prospect wasn't nearly as good)...and want him to set records. Speaking of which (sorry for the constant updates, just very excited), he's homered in 4 straight games and now has a shot at 47

He's a great prospect, there is no doubt. I don't think you did anything wrong though, given your team situation and what he was lacking in the last couple years.
He's going to be a beast. The records are all up to ABE though...

Rather interesting having the top 2 home run guys so far this year being rookies...power implosion or a temporary lapse in league-wide pitching I wonder...

Molesworth set the rookie homerun record already, he currently is sitting on 43 and he has a shot at the season single record in his rookie season!
Very Nice!!
