Homerun numbers

My CF Mark Pike regained his power stroke this year and smacked 33 homers. I noticed early on his ridiculous numbers through the first few games and he was leading the league at one point i believe. Then i noticed he started trailing off, but I remember thinking "man, this guy could have a monster year!" He had a good season overall(minus the average), but I was curious to see what had happened and why he seemingly stopped hitting. So, I thought I'd look and give a breakdown of his homerun totals by month and compare them to the league leader Molesworth.

Mark Pike: Total Homers: 33
April: 8
May: 7
June: 6
July: 2
August: 1
September: 9

Jack Molesworth: Total Homers: 45
April: 6
May: 7
June: 7
July: 9
August: 8
September: 8

I had not looked at Molesworth's monthly totals before i wrote this post. His consistancy is absolutely scary.

Ahh, that is very interesting to look at by the month, good point to see that to hit a lot of homeruns, it is really more than just a great month or two. Pike definitely did have a powerful season though, with bookend great months. The lean July and August did him in in the long run.

What was impressive with Molesworth was that he was hitting about .275 heading into the final month and a half...and he steadily improved it to finish above .300 near the tail end of the season...actually got stronger as the season went on, hitting a home run in 4 straight games, from 9/11 to 9/14. At that point he was at 43 and I thought he could break the record, but then he "only" hit 2 homeruns the next 17 days.

Anyway, knock on wood, this was exactly what I was hoping from Molesworth when I drafted him, but as Hamilton pointed out to me yesterday, heart-break is all too common in this game - maybe he just peaked. Of course, the real reason he can hit so many homeruns is the 97 health - playing in 161 games, you better hit 40 if you've got 90+ power

Ehhh.. I can show you 5 guys that I have had with red letter contact and 95 or more power that couldn't hit 40 in this league ((and in my small park))....

I've seen those around this league, definitely incredibly frustrating....case in point Joe Bianco...yeah he hit 38 last season but he may never hit that many again...which is perplexing given the 99 power and 76 contact....ultimately I think it's the health. If you can get 100 at-bats more, you've got the chance to hit at least 5-10 home runs more.

This guy is a perplexing case too... how can you have 80 contact and 98 power and hit under 25 homeruns??
