Salseros / Red Sox Strike Deal

As the trade deadline gets close and closer and with the AL race tight as can be, the Salseros made a move today to deepen their roster in preparation for an attempt to clinch a 7th consecutive postseason appereance.
New York acquired slugger Jimmy Myers and hard throwing reliever Honus Dagres from Boston on Friday in exchange for SS Juan Johnston and New York?s 2nd and 3rd round draft picks in next years draft.
When introducing the two newest Salseros, GM Jacob Flores commented;"We made this deal because we felt our bull pen has been a bit shaky this season and Dagres' presence will allow us to use our late inning guys a little less and cut some of the work load off of everyone. Dagres is having a great season. He has the best ERA in our bullpen now. And Jimmy Myers, he is a player I have admired throughout his whole career. We drafted him 15 years ago in the 1978 draft. He was a long shot player, a 4th rounder taken 61st overall. But I always thought he was a hardworking kid and I saw the makeup of a solid major leaguer in him. Sadly, we had to trade him away shortly after drafting him in the deal that brought us Jack James and he?s been in Boston ever since. But now he gets to come back to the organization that gave him his first opportunity. Were excited! He?s having a career year and he?s going to give our lineup a big boost."
"I was devasted when I left New York" commented Myers, " Being from Jersey, I grew up a Salseros fan and dreamed of dawning the Salsero uniform. Leaving was hard. But I had an amazing career in Boston. I will always be a Red Sox at heart. But being 34 and starting to feel my body age, Im happy to finally fulfill my dream of playing for my favorite club and having a chance to get some postseason play."
Dagres will be used as a late inning reliever. Myers will play 2B for the Salseros, moving young Juan Mendoza to RF and slumping Cosme Avendano to CF. Buddy Bankston loses his starting job but will be the primary 4th OF and back up Julio Andrade at first base.
