My Baseball Experience

I 1st became a fan in 1951. I would listen to Mel Allen and Dizzy Dean do the Game of the Day on radio on summer afternoons. I would listen to Jerry Doggett broadcast the Dallas Eagles (of the Texas League) games often in the evening. A few times each season my dad would take me to Burnett Field in Dallas to see the Eagles. In 1956 he drove us all the way from Lewisville, Tx to St Louis to see the SL Cardinals and the Milwaukee Braves.

I played in the 1st "organized" kids league in my hometown. We had 4 teams and T-Shirts with spray painted numbers. I played HS ball (so-so, good arm, no hit) and even pitched a bit of what was called outlaw ball in the late 50's, early '60's.

I've been to many AA and AAA games in the area. I was at the very 1st Rangers game. I met and visited with Ted Williams when he managed here. I have coached every level of ball from T-Ball to Semi-Pro. My son was an outstanding college player at a small Christian school in Kansas - 1st team All Conference at SS and RP. Led the conference in HR's and Saves. His college pitching coach was Cy Young winner John Denny.

I've seen a lot of ball in my day. Last night I saw my 1st World Series game. My youngest son (now 37) drove from Houston to North Texas to take me to see the Rangers and the Cards in Game 4. I'm not sure I've caught my breath yet.
