The power hitting Shaute will have his work cut out for him, as Mikulak slugged 30 home runs last season and lead all of baseball in hits. But management was quick to point out that Shaute was not replacing Mikulak, just filling in for him.
Shaute has earned 5 walks in his first three games, and has three hits, including a triple and 4 RBI.
Brooklyn's rabid fans have taken to singing, "Shaute it out loud" when the big right-hander steps into the box.
"I'm looking forward to playing for Brooklyn and winning a championship," Shaute said.
Given up in the deal were pitching prospect Ray Riggs who has been impressive in his first few major league innings, and outstanding defensive shortstop Brian McAllister.
