Joe Bianco has become the 4th player to join the prestigious 500 homerun club. Despite never leading the league in homeruns in any one season, Joe has had a consistent career that has resulted in some wonderful numbers.
He has publicly stated that this will be his final season, but he is still going strong at the age of 41. "I have enjoyed great success here in Oakland, but I would love to finish this season off with one more ring. They will never take away our championship in 1979, but losing 4 other World Series is something I lose sleep over. Hopefully I can carry the squad to one more this season."
The Athletics released the following statement:
"Joe has been a pillar and hallmark of the kind of image the Athletics have wanted to portray. For the past 19 years, Joe has been the ultimate professional, playing the game the right way, and has done the Green and Gold proud every step of the way."
While the A's have acquired a wealth of talent in the past years through the draft, the trade to acquire Bianco from the at that point rebuilding Cardinals in 1968 marked the turning point for this franchise that had never been to the playoffs previously. On his way to winning the MVP in 1973, Joe led the A's to their first playoff series and consequentially to the World Series as well, where they lost a tough series. Due to this, Oakland fans will forever remember Joe Bianco as the catalyst to the beginning of the A's prolonged success in these past several decades.
Joe will soon likely be joined by Jack Molesworth in the 500 club. Jack is 9 away and will get there this season barring an injury.
The A's have announced plans to construct two life-size statues outside their idyllic waterfront ballpark to commemorate their two larger-than-life sluggers. The franchise is honored that they will have 2 of the 5 500 lifetime homerun members be lifelong Athletics.

Many in Oakland were panicking after the franchise jumped the gun and unveiled a statue of Bianco and Molesworth as 500 home-run club members, figuring Molesworth was a lock to get there this season. However, after hitting homerun #499 on 8/31, Jack found himself on 9/25 still at the same number. Staring at the first month in his career where he has not hit a homerun, Jack finally blasted #500 against Cleveland on 9/26.
His next goal is to win a world series this season, followed by breaking the all-time record, which is 80 away.
