Here is my snapshot of him:
Leviticus is at or near the top of nearly every All Time offensive category. I think there must be some statistical glitch or more than one player was named Leviticus. Observe:
Born in 1957, he began playing in the majors at 11 years old (1968), which was miraculous in itself, as he wasn't drafted until 1975.
His last productive year with Chicago was 1985, at 28 years old, an 18-year career, which is about when most players hang it up. However...
Leviticus merely took a seven year sabbatical, from 1986 through 1992, resuming his career with Chicago in 1993.
He played four additional seasons, but was a shadow of his former self. But his career totals were padded considerably.

How can/did this possibly happen?

He was likely in a merged league where the dates between the two merged leagues did not match.

He was in the Sandberg Yingling League which was indeed a merged league.

So ... there were *two* players named "Leviticus" ... one in each league?

No, the there was one.... When the league was merged, it didn't go back and correct the prior stat years, and but it did move his birthdate forward to keep his age correct, creating an apparent gap in his career with the earlier years appearing that he was far too young.

3 hits shy of 4000. Ouch.
And I'm guessing the name change was lost too?

It looks like all news entries from the prior league were not carried over.
