I have a suggestion for initial drafts: Fill half the draft pool using the algorithms you use now, and fill the other half with the algorithms you use for amateur drafts. This way, half the players will be decent older guys and half will be young guys with mostly minor-league talent.
Is this worth tweaking before you re-run the draft? We so rarely have a chance to test initial drafts....

It looks to me that there is a decent number of young players available, it just depends on where you put your draft points. I weighted youth heavily, so I got younger players who are probably not quite as talented (yet). If you don't place points on youth, then you'll get the players who have the most talent currently, although they may be older.

Actually, I had the opposite experience. I weighted youth fairly heavily and I only have 5 players over 27 -- and only 2 over 30. Conversely, I have 13 players under 24 and 26 players age 25 or under.It looks to me that there is a decent number of young players available, it just depends on where you put your draft points. I had 8 on youth for pitchers and 4 for position players...

I've changed my settings since then, but I think I had 15 and 15.

I'd agree that the pool probably isn't the issue. I inherited the Untouchables' draft preferences without realizing it. Brad had 28 and 34 points on youth for offense and pitching, and ended up with only one player on the entire roster as old as 26, and only 3 at 25. So I'd say that if anyone wants a younger roster, ratchet up those youth points.

The team that drafted with my pref. (NYN) took a lot of young guys as well.Pages: 1
