QB Injury

January 05, 2014 at 08:13PM View BBCode

I'm in 2 leagues for 4 seasons now and I've had QB's in both leagues get hurt for more than 2 weeks on running plays. I just find it real unrealistic for a QB to get hurt when he hands off. I'm not sure if this has been addressed before but figured I'd say something.

There will certainly be situations where something somewhat unrealistic happens; there are a lot of special cases to try to avoid these, but if a QB when down with a broken collarbone on a handoff that would indeed look bad. A deranged knee or something, however, is entirely plausible; any time you are running and maneuvering on a field wearing cleats there is the potential to twist something wrong.

When you see something that looks particularly bad to you, please post a link to the game and tell me which play it is (quarter/time remaining helps), and I'll look to see if it's something that should be fixed or if I feel like it can be justified.

Note that in a handoff play, the RB and the defender assigned to him are the most likely injury targets, but anyone on the field can get injured. Essentially the game decides first that there has been an injury (based on the average injury rate for the league), then assigns a percentage to each player (based on their role in the play, their Health rating, defensive aggressiveness, and current fatigue level) to see who actually receives the injury, then assigns the injury itself ("shaken up", sidelined for a chunk of the game, or an actual multi-day injury). The length of the injury is then modified based on the player's Health rating.

Ultimately, though, it is a contact sport and no one is completely safe.
