24 Team Leagues
We have added support for 24 team leagues. The reason we are tackling this now is that there are too many teams for sale and supply is outpacing demand for teams. Most of the site management stuff was designed while we were growing, without a lot of mechanisms for dealing with shrinking numbers. We want to have mechanisms in place for both conditions, growth and decline.
Initially, we plan to use this to combine leagues with poor renewal histories. For example, taking two leagues that are looking for 4 new owners each and combining them into a single 24 team league. When teams leave that league, we can dial it back to a 20 team league, and then a 16 team league.
We have no plans to merge any specific leagues at this time into 24 team leagues. Over the coming months we will work with any leagues that could be candidates for a merger.
In the 24 team league, there are 2 divisions in the AL and NL. The division winners will make the playoffs, and there will be 2 wildcards from each league that can come from either division.
We will likely look to add support 12 and 20 team leagues this summer.

I'm new so I don't know the renewal history of this league. But at first glance it's obvious that two owners are AWOL in SEA and HOU. There are also two more owners that haven't logged in this season. Having 25% of our league absent is less than ideal. Something to consider longterm would be merging this league with another to form a 24 team league. Just browsing the openings I see the OVL has 4 openings, they use the same rules only at 12GPD. I think a merger a similar league would make sense at some point. Just thought I would throw the idea out there. Here is a rundown from Tyson...24 Team Leagues

I wouldn't be wild about going to 12 games a day, if we were to merge with a league with a faster schedule. The rest of the rules I'm not wedded to. In fact I'd probably prefer a different player development one.

24 teams would be interesting to try and definitely better than 25% absentee ownership. I wonder what would happen to the league records and past history.I wouldn't be wild about going to 12 games a day, if we were to merge with a league with a faster schedule. It seems to me that these leagues become a bit ridiculous when they enter their 200th year in existance. I think letting the leagues run for 550 years is a bit to much and people lose interest and would rather enter a younger league. God willing MLB we be around for millions of years but I dont really want to try to wrap my head around those types of statistics and player history, team history and those are the things that make SimDynasty compelling to me.

I agree, I always thought leagues should just reset after year 2100. Some leagues are just a complete mess, took me a while to find a decent one in the JEL.

I'll pass.... this is one of my favorite leagues. Change for change sake is not the answer. If you aren't happy in the current situation, leave the league. I personally enjoy this format. Perhaps there should be stricter rules for allowing people into leagues to rebuild and win then leave a crippled franchise. That seems like a smarter solution. And don't tell me you have to strip down franchises to be successful. That's just lazy ownership.Alec

Not sure if this directed towards me but I joined the league in 1950 and then rejoined when I saw my old team was a disaster.
Not sure how I ever crippled my franchise. It's been a constant power under my ownership. I don't need someone attacking me. I guess having 15, 20 year runs is lazy owneship, whatever

And I think I'm allowed to be intrigued by a new twist in sim dynasty baseball without getting attacked.

then, i stated if we shifted to 24 teams that would perk my interest and id likely remain in the league.
then your post made comments about people leaving the league, making changes for the sake of change. when i read it, it seemed like a response to me.
i reiterate if i leave the league its because i have too many teams and this is the most logical one to leave. It has nothing to do with being lazy, leaving a crippled team, whatever. Its about my own personal time management and budget. I don't think that needs to be justified to anybody.
second, if im interest in a new feature for baseball that doesn't imply im trying to issue an ultimatum or force the other members of the league to accept that new feature, and has nothing to do with me wanted change for the sake of change or being a lazy owner. It means what i said. The new feature is interesting to me and id like to be a league with that feature. IT has no other meaning - hidden or implied.
